In this Christmas service my pastor spoke about Jesus' other name: Emmanuel. That name meant "God is always with you." I felt a really strong connection to that message, maybe you will too.
As far as advice to give to you. I found great understanding of God's motives for bringing pain into our lives by reading the book of Job. If you haven't read it already, try to read it from beginning to end.
Basically, what I took from it was that God doesn't always bring us struggles or trials b/c we or our loved ones deserve the pain. His reasons are higher than ours b/c he is God. And, sometimes though we're hurting, we have to accept our plights with grace. He does provide allowance for your intercessory prayer; and he does only allow you what he thinks that you can handle. He promises to deliver you from your trial and restore you 3 times greater than you were before.
I'm not saying that your trials will be easy, but the one thing I've noticed through reading Job is that Job always prayed to plead his case to God b/c he thought that he was an honorable man. He didn't pray for a release from his pain, he prayed for a trial before God so that he could convince God that he was a good person and deserved to live a life free from suffering. So my advice would be to remember to pray for God's mercy on you and your family; not rewards for you or your families' ablilities to be honorable.
REMEBER, EVERYTHING IS BY HIS GRACE!
My second bit of advice is to read the Bible. Like the stories of David and Solomon. David was a great warrior who fought many enemies of Israel (God's chosen people). One of the only downfalls to that was that David wanted to build God's Temple, but God said that his son (Solomon) had to build it b/c he (David) had too much blood on his hands from his many battles. So, Solomon built the temple after his father died. But, David was still a man of honor in the Bible. Though he did make an awful mistake with Bathsheeba which he suffered greatly for.
Going to battle to protect Christian morals and values is an accepted duty according to the Bible. It is one you should have pride in (in my opinion). God Bless You.
My third bit of advice is obviously to read the Bible and pray, spending quiet time with God. The Bible has many great heros, warriors and kings that struggled with fear of death and fear of the inablility to make wise righteous decisions when it comes to life or death situations. Prayer keeps the lines of communication open between you and God. It would seem to me that you would have to really let God make the most important decisions for you.
Also, get others to pray for you. If you don't see it (prayer) making a change in your immediate surroundings, you will start to see it making a change in your heart. There is a forum on this board for prayer requests. I have personally felt their prayers at work in my life.
God Bless You and I will be praying for you and your family in this uncertain time.
Dear Lord,
Please be with CtChrono. He is such a young person. God Bless Him for being so wise as to seek out Godly Counsel from other believers in his time of need. God being such a young person please force yourself into his life. He may be so overwhelmed with confusion and uncertainty right now that all he can think of is worry. Please become a strong influence in his life, Father. Take his hand since his mind is prone to be preoccupied right now and show him that you are always with him. Help him, Father. Show him your Love. Please keep him and his family safe from harm and protected by your Graceful Hand. In Jesus Precious Name, I Pray. AMEN
