I was sitting here looking at all my books and was thinking how much I love my books (OK, to most that will sound completely pathetic but I know several of you on here will understand :D ). Just looking at all my good books makes me happy. :tutu:

So, what do you love? What makes you happy and brings a smile to your face? It could be anything from your adoring spouse to your perfectly shaped ears to your new set of socket wrenches. (Don't know why that list popped into my head but it did. I think the horrible allergies I'm having is making me a bit loopy.)

Oh wow, what excellent timing with this thread.

We've been putting off unpacking most of our boxes for the past couple of weeks. Today, I decided to bite the bullet while hubby was grocery shopping and started opening box after box after box..... of books! :D

I was so thrilled. It was a huge joke while the movers were bringing everything into the house. They'd ask what room we wanted stuff in, and it was so funny because it was just non-stop, "Oh, gee, look, more books, we know which room this goes in!" At one point they were like, "So, what's the name of the bookstore you're opening here, anyway?"

Same thing happened with book cases and book shelves. We have easily 20 book cases in this house, most of them huge, and we still were almost out of space for our books in our last house. Every time the movers came across another book case or heavy box of books, you could just hear them mentally groaning and cursing us.

So anyway! Today, unpacking six or seven boxes of books and putting them onto my shelves? Pure bliss. It was the first time I realized exactly how much I have missed my books in the past seven months, and how happy I am to have them back.

So, I love my:
God
Husband
Puppy
Books!
(in that order) :D

Yay for booklovers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm like you, Epoh and snooch - looking at my books makes me happy! And putting books on shelves is so much fun! I lovelovelove reading, but I also love just looking at my shelves. Better than watching tv, actually.

Besides books, my husband and kitties make me pretty happy, too. ;) And cooking, and taking long walks in nature. And all animals make me very happy.

I was so thrilled....

Our books are all packed also, I only have out the few dozen I've bought recently. The thing I'm looking forward to most is unpacking my books. I honestly miss them.

Do you keep your books in any particular order? Meaning, do you categorize them, alphabetize by author, etc?

What makes me happy? Kinda hard to tell...I'm pretty dismal...

I'll write two of 'em, in order
- God
- The knowing that this nightmare won't be so bad when I have someone to share it with...then we can panic together.

I have an extremely negative personality so one of the things I'm working on is finding joy in small things and being happy for what I have and where I'm at....no matter how tough it may be right now. Good for you having God first, all the rest will fall into place.

4. My artwork
5. My antique/vintage collection - or the ones I can admire in the store and can't afford

What kind of artwork and antiques do you have? Rembrandt paintings? :D

...I lovelovelove reading, but I also love just looking at my shelves. Better than watching tv, actually....

I totally relate! Sometimes I'll just go stand in front of the bookshelves and look, pull a book out, put it back, look at another, and then just stare.

Books for me too! And maps! I have a thing for maps.

Oh, my husband LOVES maps. Seriously, between books and maps we're lucky we have money for food.

i love sleeping late. And if you guys are sick of hearing it, i'm pretty sure i'll love my future husband and be happy around him. I also love books and painting and designing things

And I'm sure you'll be an awesome wife!

What kind of things do you like to design? You sound very artsy.

3. My bird

What kind of bird do you have? My parents have two lovebirds and they annoy me so much whenever I go over. They love to "talk" to my mom and the noise drives me crazy. I wouldn't mind them if they were quiet. :)

Sure, see attached picture.

I have an African Grey. I've had her for a little over a year. Awesome bird, very friendly, and talks like crazy.

I know what you mean about loud birds. That's one reason I got an African Grey; they're usually pretty quiet. It's very rare for her to be "squawking loud" like most birds. She pretty much just hangs out, talks, whistles, and makes other sounds.

Did you move? Did I miss news? When do you get your books back?

I know for me, it was a long 7 months - and affected me more than I realized. I feel more comfortable today than I have since I moved, and I think it's because of the books. I know that sounds weird, but I really do think that's why.

Do you keep your books in any particular order? Meaning, do you categorize them, alphabetize by author, etc?

At the moment, not so much. For the most part, hardbacks are together and paperbacks are together. Series are together. Certain authors we enjoy reading in particular and have everything they ever wrote, and those we keep together. Everything else is kind of haphazard. I try to keep books we haven't read yet in one case, texts in another case, and everything else is just thrown together.

One day, when I'm more organized, I want to catalog them all because we often forget what we have and buy a duplicate (which turns into someone's Christmas gift that year :D). And, I'd love to have them in genre order, by author, by publication date. That's a pipe dream, though.

I have an African Grey called Tommy. He lives at my parents because he attacked my husband when I was still at home. Tommy sees me as his so when me and DH started dating it didn't go down very well. He is the sweetest bird but he does have jealous side.

We also decided to leave him with my parents because they have 8 other parrots so he would have been lonely going to live by himself. For my mum her parrots are her other children. She has adopted many of them (I got in on the act and adopted Tommy). So many people don't realise the commitment parrots are.

I also love my cats. Lucy my oldest is 12 today!

Cant think of anything else right now.

Never sick of hearing it, Mina, please don't say that about yourself! I hope you will meet him soon.

Happy birthday Lucy! My kitties will be 5 this Friday.

Our books are organised in alphabetical order or by genre. The fiction and the classical texts (in the study, for my husband's work) are in alphabetical order, the rest is by genre. My cookbooks are organized by size because some of them are huge and only fit on the bottom shelf (I wish publishers would take people's bookshelf sizes more into account - some books are really too big to fit anywhere).
