  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Peace to you!

I like all those Bible versions, myself. However, I greatly dislike the commentary of the NAB and I even dislike the wordings a little. I don't like translations that put "Happy" for "Blessed", like in Psalm one or in the Beatitudes.

I know I asked this before, but what versions of the Bible are accepted by the Catholic Church? I downloaded this program called e-sword, now I need to know what versions of the Bible to download. This are what they have: http://www.e-sword.net/bibles.html

I'm actually suprised by the number of Dream Theater fans in here. Nobody that lives by me has heard of them. :)

LOL

The NAB is not my favorite, but it does have some zingers! (Such as "Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless?" (James, 2:20 NAB) )

;)

Then you'd like the Ignatius Bible (and it actually translates "full of grace" instead of "highly favored one".) The Ignatius Bible is a reprint of the 1966 Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition--so there's no "inclusive language" as well. (Sorry, didn't see it in the list.)

Maybe an older version of the New American Bible (NAB) would be okay? I know the footnotes of the 1966 Jerusalem Bible are great. (Don't like the inclusive language of the New Jerusalem Bible.) Of course, with either Jerusalem, you'll find that "happy" for "blessed".

Oh, speaking of commentaries, have you seen the Navarre Commentary? Excellent! A Bible as well. (Again, not on the list. Rats!)

Made your "wish list" for Christmas yet?

Personally I like how James 2:16 starts out the whole speech.

Comically, 216 is 6x6x6. These are two facts I found out after joining CF.

Thanks guys, but the only Vulgate version is in Latin.
*doesn't see the problem* ;)

If you want an English translation of the Vulgate, that's what the Douay-Rheims is. The NAB isn't usually available for Bible software because it's still under copyright.

Another program you might try is at http://vulsearch.sourceforge.net/index.html. It has the Clementine Vulgate (which is the one used at Mass and, unlike some others floating around on the Internet, has punctuation and capital letters) and the Douay-Rheims.

I bought and use the NAB, offical Catholic Bible edition. Bought it from a Catholic Supply store and it has the imprimatur.

I bought mine from Barnes and Nobles (I own three Bibles, the NAB, NIV, and KJV). The Imprimatur was what lead me to believe that it was an official Bible of the CC.

the navarre bible sounds like an excellent bible. Where could I get one?
The Navarre is actually a work in progress . the full version is in multiple volumes, the whole New Testament is done and is broken down by book except some of the smaller epistles . .

Some of the Old Testament is done . . it is very expensive to own the whole set . .

There is a Readers Edition that has much of the original edition . . and is much cheaper . .

Then there is the Compact edition in which the whole New Testament is in one book . .. it is good for devotional use, and I have this one, but it lacks some of the material I was hoping for . . So I hope to be able to afford the Reader's edition at some point .. if not the full version .

The NAB Catholic Edition is an official bible of the CC . . however, it is not necessarily recognized as the best translation . . it is easier reading for some . . :)

Adn I like using several versions . . as no one translation is perfect . . it is iimpossible that one could be by the very nature of translation and what it requires, and what is possible and impossible when translating from one language family to another thousands oaf years after the works were written . . .
