Okay so I'm out for a walk around the neighborhood, decide to go up an alley, and spot what at first I thought was one of those novelty $1000 bills, in the middle of the road. I open it up wondering if it's a gotcha tract. And nope, it's an actual $100 bill.

So now what do I do with it? Turn it over to the police? Give it to charity? Save it for a rainy day?

(When I get home I'll examine it closely to make sure it's not counterfeit. I know what to look for).

Edit: looks genuine upon close inspection. Looks like it was run over. It was breezy so who knows where it was originally dropped.

I feel sorry for whoever lost it.

Spend it quickly while $100 is still a lot of money … before inflation reaches the point where you stop bothering to pick up your $100 bills when you drop them, too. ;)

I had something similar happen in our neighborhood. (Found $38 in a wad.) I put up a notice if anyone had lost $. After about 3 weeks no one claimed it, so I kept it. I know pretty much all the neighbors and nobody would be trying to unjustly claim it. Of course if someone had responded I would have asked what amount it was.

Cash is something you simply can't find the owner to.

All you can do is perhaps keep an ear out in that area for people saying they lost some cash, but if you were to advertise you found cash literally anyone could claim it to be theirs so you can't say anything about it.

Just keep an ear out, most poor people who lose money like that notice it quickly. But if you don't hear anything after a couple days consider it a blessing, and choose to do whatever you think God entrusted you with it for.

If you've been in need then use it towards your needs, if not then pray for God's will on what to put it towards.

This looks like a good time to buy the Beverly Hillbillies full series collection on DVD.

There perhaps have never been a better time in the history of man to buy such a product... think about that...

If you need the money, then use what you need. If you don’t need it, you can probably find someone who does. If that doesn’t work, your wife probably will know what to do with it.

How do you know God didn’t have you find it for some good reason?

Think of the last thing you desired in the last 3 weeks that cost around $100. When it comes to mind, buy it.... for this is why the money was given to you.

What bothers me about it ethically, is that it's money someone lost. It doesn't seem right to profit off of someone's loss.

It was a hundred dollar bill, so chances are the person who lost it was not destitute.

"Do you live in Seattle?"
"yes"

"Was this near the Space Needle?"
"Well, yes, as a matter of fact!"

"Was it behind the 7-11 off Denny Way, by the dumpster?"
"YES!"

"Oh. Shucks, not mine."

I know exactly how you feel. I found a $20 bill blowing across a field between subsidized housing and a food supermarket. I can just imagine who lost it and how much it means to them (my family grew up on food stamps). However there was NOBODY visible and it was getting close to sunset, so there was no chance that I was ever going to find the owner.

I just gave it to the wife to spend because she is always running across people that need help (like paying for groceries for someone in line). I just told her I found it without saying where.

The reality is that you really can’t find the owner because you can’t identify cash. The best you can do is to treat it as a blessing from God and just be thankful, or if your conscience will not allow that, then just do something good with it.

I would keep it unless I had a personal friend, relative, church member etc. who I knew was in need in which case they would get a surprise blessing.
