  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have sinned. I have violated not only my relationship with God. But I have violated the trust of others. And yet God is merciful. :crossrc:

Have mercy on me, O God, after your great goodness. May I never fall again.

Now is the time to engage in present moment thinking.

You can't change the past.

You can't control the future.

None of us can.

Guilt is counterproductive. Worry is counterproductive.

Living one day at a time is the answer for all of us.

Guilt is the sign of a good conscience. A soul that lets its sin quiet its conscience is evil.

Accepting responsibility for past behavior is healthy. Guilt, on the other hand, is not.

And one must always remember that sin is a behavior, and that everyone commits good and bad behaviors every day.

People are made in the image and likeness of God. People are good. Behaviors can be bad, but people are not behaviors.

8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. [1] 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you [2] free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, [3] he condemned sin in the flesh

Sin isn't a "behavior" but rather a conscious rebellion against God's laws. An abuse of free will. A weakened state of the will from the fall, concupiscence. Sin requires consent with our free will. However due to our concupiscence we tend to be easily misled and fall easily.

Your writing is contrary to what contrition is as well as the issues of merit. Sorrow and guilt for ones sins is an extremely important part in realizing the severity of our transgressions. How can one have repentence and contrition without sorrow and guilt? We sin because of our concupiscence and weakened state from the fall that we brought on ourselves..However that does not give us excuse as we can reduce sin with the 4 cardinal virtues God teaches us. Fortitude, temperance, justice, and prudence.

Also the Seven heavenly virtues can be used to combat the urge to sin. It is good to study them. They are:

Chasity
Temperance
Charity
Diligence
Patience
kindness
Humility

They are considered the opposite of the seven deadly sins.

Guilt for ones sins is a very good thing. As it shows a concern for breaking God's command. However guilt should never get to the point of despair and despair gives Satan many openings to bring someone down and ruin their faith.

The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.

Agreed.

Guilt is the conscience's response to sin, unless some controlling figure authority or officious person has placed us on an unnecessary guilt trip. That is an ever-present danger, especially for our children.

Back on topic:

God forgives and I forgive. Please forgive me a sinner.

We have to learn to forgive each other because if we do not, then our very salvation is in grave jeopardy. Christ said that unless we forgive, we shall not be forgiven. Those are strong words.
