  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have been thinking about this..

It is not about the effect that taking out prayer or anything religious affects our schools or society. However, I would like to know can students still pray, pass out tracts, site the Pledge of Allegiance in full without controversy, or form worship groups? I would like to read and hear that opinion. Sometimes though these things happen, the media tends to skew or tell the news with a lack of objectivity and I was wondering this. I was a substitute teacher and I remember the Gideons passing out New Testaments to students. I am not being nostalgic, but I am wondering do Gideons pass out bibles at your school or have they stopped doing that? I know they still say the Pledge of Allegiance with the words "under God" in it, but I think it is so sad that some people are so PC that those two words would offend them yet they have cameras and security guards in elementary schools. I am not saying that life was totally easy back then, but I am wondering if things have really changed and if so, how much? There was still "discrimination" and "controversy" back then and there were school shootings and crime back then. (I'm thinking of the movie "Lean on Me" as proof.) But is there really more discrimination against Christians now compared to maybe decades ago or has it been exaggerated?

I attend a public high school so i can answer your questions
Yes we still have the Pledge of Allegiance, but you're not required to stand or say it
I have never had the Gideons come to the school, not in any school I have been to
You can still pray
If you pass tracks the way i always did (put them in a semi-obvious hiding place) the staff will throw them away, but you can hand one to someone personally
There are Christian clubs that are organized, but if they are going to teach anything it has to be off campus
Personally I believe it's not so much that Christianity is being taken from our schools rather then Christians don't want to bother putting it back. Kids, even those who claim salvation, are so apathetic these days no one cares to do anything like hand out tracks or pray. Added if the wrong people see you doing this, you will get called out and laughed at. If anything, i think this should push Christians to be more open, and show the world that yeah we are still here and we will continue doing what it is we love to do

Things vary from country to country and I'm not sure about the USA but in Canada we can still do this to some extent. I think we need to be aware of the law and policy to be able to deal with this so that we can present our ideas to schools and such with effectiveness.
