  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have an interesting question... or two

Why didn't he (the guilty party) think about his family when during the time of the crime and why do these families blame the victim for what their family member(s) did? I won't get it. Is it grief or is it something else? I don't understand that either. I apologize if I come across as rude, but there are things that I don't know about or can relate to. I shouldn't have said interesting in the title.

The family assumes that he would not have harmed the family, and therefore views the shooting as an overreaction. In their state of grief, these particular people seem to lack the ability to realize that the victim of the robbery did not have the luxury of being able to assume this.

Ignorance of the law and of their own legal rights probably also plays into it.

That being said, I don't know why the homeowner went home just to enter the crime scene...

It's also loyalty. People with weak sense of justice and objectivity tend to form their opinions based on their feelings of loyalty. They take the side they're loyal to = their family member in this case.

It's the way it usually works, there is a reason why family members testifying in courts is not usually considered to be very strong evidence, it's because of the loyalty bias.

This isn't the first time I have noticed this. I understand it is painful especially for a mother or a father to turn their child in, but in the end the child should have thought about their parents. It is so sad that anyone would think it is a good idea to harm someone in any way, shape, or form.
