I think he meant Vernon Ashe, from the Mar Thoma church. There was a large influx of members over at the christianitytoday MB several years ago.

I was hoping he would lead Pentecostals to Orthodoxy much like Fr. Peter Gilquist et. al. did with Campus Crusade years ago. I've not heard anything about him lately, sorry.

Yes Kind sir, He is Archbishop of the Mar Thomas Church.....but his name is VERON Ashe...Not vernon...I believe he is also known as Archbishop Mar Enoch.....I am not Orthodox, but this man is an incredible preacher..such knowledge and a very strong annointing.
We had heard that he had gotten ill, but nothing was ever confirmed. I thank you for your kind response...May God bless you...

He's not Orthodox. He just started his own church and called it "Orthodox," as part of a whole group of people who have started their own "independent churches."

It would not be unusual for someone to come in asking information on someone or some church that has "orthodox" in it's name, whether it is EO or not.

Let us remember to help all those we can, and even if they are not affiliated with our own specific churches, we do not know their standing before God, so we should proceed with humility.

You have my apologies for the flippant nature of my response. Judging by his name however, it was fairly obvious to me this person was one of the many vagante groups that incorporate "Orthodox" in to their name and attempt outwardly to appear as if they are a legitimate member of the Orthodox Church. In truth, I don't find that situation to be humorous. Perhaps you can imagine how it feels to us when we see such things happening.

My apologies on his name, I was going by memory and did a search and apperently I am not the only one who mispelled it.

To be fair, IIRC (from discussions on CT) the members of his church did seem sincere in wanting to be Orthodox. The problem was is that they thought they could just roll their own and then were a bit taken aback why we wouldn't just accept them in communion with canonical Orthodoxy. The fact that the Church is not simply a right belief but also a existing living organism was a major stumbling block to them.

I dont know the different branches of the Orthodox church, and I dont split chicken hairs with fellow believers over the specifics......Even though I am non-denominational (because I dont believe in the division found in the Body), I had (and still have) great respect for the Orthodox faith because of Archbishop Ashe.....I wont argue if he part of this sect or that one or whatever...but what I KNOW is that he is an outstanding preacher/expositor of the Word and a great man of God....I hate it that he is MIA.

I believe that it is easy to be confused about the word "Orthodox" but this part of Christian Forums is for "Eastern Orthodox" and the Arch Bishop you are referring to is not a part of our Church. Someone familiar with "Oriental Orthodox" has confirmed that he is not a part of that Church either.

I do hope that he is well or recovers quickly.

I tried to do some research and couldn't find anything recent in my web search. There was a link that led me to the same information choirfiend reported above and the rest of the links were not helpful.

I'm sorry that no one here knows him, it is just that he is not a part of our Church.

Well, Ilian's response was flippant and uncalled for, and he apologized for it, so I see why he was taken aback.

Anyways...

I remember Veron Ashe when he came to Oral Roberts University during my time there. He definitely preached much that was Orthodox, and in the boisterous (sp?) way Pentecostals do. Sorry to hear he's sick/out of touch.
