I have a question…

What do you think of bands that act horrible, cuss, etc, and thank God in public?

  • Christian (everyday, normal, average Christian who has faults.

  • Hypocrite (they are putting down God by the way they act/talk/sing and are giving Christianity a bad

What do you think of the actors/musicians/famous peeps in general, that really act bad…and then, on the awards ceremony (like CMA’s, etc.) and they say I want to thank: my Mommy, my Daddy, my producer, __(fill in the blank)___, and most of all, God? Isn’t that a BIG put down for Christianity? Isn't it basically putting God down? They are making God and us look bad! Do you feel the same way as I do? Just wondering…

You know, I don't know because, I have had thoughts on that both ways. It use to make me really mad and then I started to pity them because I believed they are decieved. However the more I think of it, everyone has their faults and many make mistakes. I do think some of them do it just because it looks good and because it habit and not out of truth or belief. However many mean it and have fallen short just as all of us do everyday. Besides, in a way I suppose it is not ours to say if someone is a Christian or not. You can say if an action is right or sin, a sin or not but we can't see a person's heart.

Well, it depends. Let me make an example. Say we have an actor named Tom Hall. Mr. Hall is a christian and has been for all of his life. He loves God first and acting second. Recently Tom has won an Oscar for best actor in the movie "Life with Tommy" He thanks the producers, his family, his wife, and then thanks God.

When ever I see a case like Tom I wonder, "Tom why don't you come out with your Christianity, preach the word of God brother!" And then the answer comes to mind. Hollywood is filled with the mainstream left. Liberals who are more concerned with keeping God out of the movies that if Tom preached, he wouldn't be the best actor. It's not Tom's fault that society doesn't want him to preach, it is....well societys fault. So whenever I hear some one saying "and most importantly I want to thank God!" Then I thank God that there is one more person in the world that knows the truth!

If Tom was a Christian and acted bad...well then that is his deal with God and him, not us. Sometimes all these bad acts are just for the publicity.

Here's why I disagree with people using every vulgar word in the book, having videos with half naked people, endorse drinking, lust and then thanking God when in front of a television or on the back of their cd cover.

No matter what people say, we are judged and looked at more by our actions more than what we say. The greatest witness to someone is to live like you are saved, not live like the world and then proclaim God when at some ceremony. I would call these people hypocrites because their apparent lifestyle looks contrary to what they are supposed to believe.

I watched DMX perform on TV once. We know his rapping is filled with vulgarity, but I liked his style. He was just "keepin it real" but after throwing out all the language and the hints of sex, at the end of the show he says, "let's pray." I was like ehhhh????? I'm glad he prays and says God is his Lord, but the lifestyle wouldn't tell me that. Ok, I've ranted enough.

I know I use words I shouldn't, they are just part of my vocabulary. Everytime I say it I feel bad, I have gotten much better and it is infrequent between vulgarities. It is sad that one could claim to be Christian yet have a lifestyle without many morals. Perhaps they are of the Christian religion but not of the Christian faith.

I agree. i don't care if they but a song about God or Jesus on thier album. It's still hypocritcal if they surround it with violence and sex. i know no ones perfect but some of these rappers are ridiculous and we can't just say "don't judge them, nobodys perfect."

I voted hypocrite, but only because one when who is notorious for not being family-friendly thanks God, it's usually for self promotion. There are some (I'm not thinking of any body in particular, but there's rpobably somebody out there) who truly does mean what they say...and I think that's a good thing. Everybody has their faults...hey, Paul was a coldblooded murderer and then he wrote a good portion of the Bible, the most important, sacred book ever! We don't call him a hypocrite.

Yeah...you guys are right. But...one thing was that everyone has their faults. I know that is true...and we can't see the persons true heart...but there is one thing that bugs me. Lets say some rapper named Tom Hall...(going with the example) cusses continually...never acknowledges God in his music, talks about adultry/lust/fornication (sexual immorality) constantly. Then the awards come on and he's all I want to thank everyone...mom...dad...producer...etc. Then he says God. But...the next album is STILL of the cussing, never acknowledging God, and is about sexual immorality. Now...is that not pretty bad. Everyone has their faults. I know this. But...I can't help but say he would feel bad when he makes mention of God...ya know? But instead he keeps rapping of sins, and doesn't care what God approves of. That is something that REALLY is my pet peeve. I also have a question about korn and all them. They USED to be a christian band...but what happened? I feel sorry for a lot of those teens that followed them from the begining. I know some who have completely backslid because of that. That also irks me. Well, gotta go! Give me reply's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heather
