  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Grr............It's supposed to be christian, but the spritual atmosphere there isn't much better than some other state university! The profs can be very negative about you being able to pass. The tuition is twice as much, it isn't worth it! They are even more strict than the private school I was in before! You get 3 absenses then everything you miss becomes a zero! I hate it! I think I will be transfering come fall when I found out where my bf is going. I had more reasons but I forgot them for now! Grrr.........Thanks for letting me vent! I've only been in 2 weeks and I hate it this much! only 12 more weeks to go until this semester is over!

In a way I understand, but I would also like to challenge you. If you aren't happy with the spiritual atmosphere, do something about it. Chances are you're not the only one. Start a group that meets together regularily and prays. Prayer/study groups seem to be something that would be useful there, especially if profs aren't always optimistic about people passing. Invite the profs out to the prayer group. Get things started with the people around your school. I bet there are others who want to, but just don't know how, so if you help them get a jump-start it'll be very much appreciated. Let God use you, you're obviously there for a reason. God can do amazing things when we let him work through us.

God bless! hope things get better for you!

I agree... it's way too much money to be as unhappy as you seem! Maybe things will change thetween now and the end of the semester though. I've had some pretty miserable quarters and wanted to quit, but when it came to the end I still loved it there. Hopefully things will change, but if not.. get outta there! haha :)

Good luck!

First - how do you define "Christian college"? What exactly are you looking for when you say "spiritual atmosphere"?

There are a lot of Christian colleges and they vary quite a bit. Some have loads of rules and regulations and some have very few. Perhaps you did not check out the rules at Northwestern fully before you decided to enroll there. How has the college failed to live up to you idea of what a Christian college should be? The problem here may not be that it's a bad college, but that you didn't pick a college that fits you well.

3 absenses before you get zeros? What a joke! Why are you bothing to be in college if you don't want to attend class?

You knew the cost of tuition when you enrolled. If tuition is too high for you, and you still chose to go, then you made a poor choice. Don't blame the college for that decision.

Ah! Waiting to see what your boyfriend is doing? Perhaps this is what is really driving your thinking?

Look, if you reallly hate the school, drop out now. Your parents can still get a lot of their money back. But before you re-enroll anywhere, try and figure out what you want out of college and why you are bothing to go. If you are going to finish the semester, then change you attitude and get to work. You have only given this two weeks!

The transition to college life is a major one and it isn't always an easy one. Chances are you don't have any real friends yet and everything is new - where you eat, sleep, where you are, who you are with, the level of work and study... Give yourself some time, and give the college some time, too. You hardly know it at all!

I went to a Christian university last year, and I lived in residence and I was surrounded by Christians but I only really had one good friend and she lived an hour from the school so she was gone a lot.

I went in September as a Christian who was trying to grow in my faith and get a stronger relationship with Christ and my time at that school just made me a lot FURTHER apart. I am back living at home this year and just started going to a secular college and I love it. It was really hard being away from home last year and I'm home now and doing lots of volunteer work as well as school and it's just more stable for me. I want to go to paramedic school in the future and that means I'll be away from home, either an hour or 5 hour drive. But probably 5 hours away from home.

I define a Christian college that says they are a christian college, and writes their mission statement, etc. according to the Bible and what God says.
When I say spiritual atmosphere I mean people who actually live their christianity. Isn't this dry stuff of constantly like saying the Lord's prayer. You're right, it may not be such a bad college, and maybe I didn't choose well. All the more reason for me to transfer. I'm going to stick it out for now anyway. You're telling me to drop out, yet saying I haven't given it enough time. I'm going to finish the semester for sure. Then decide what would be best, maybe I will like it by then.

As far as going to class, I am a very disiplined person. I go if I can, but life is busy right now. I'm not the healthiest person on the planet by anymeans! There are other person things going on that none of you know about so don't make assumptions. No the profs won't make exeptions. So don't even bother saying that. Don't tell me I shouldn't be in college either. It was more of a vent, and I should know better than to post anything unless I expect to get a lecture back

I don't think it was that harsh...she's telling it like it is. Hey, college is a rough adjustment for anyone. Being in it only 2 weeks and deciding how much you hate it isn't giving things much of a chance. From reading the OP it sounds to me like there wasn't much research done when the decision to attend this college was made. Suprised about the tuition cost? Didn't you check that out beforehand? Suprised about what their mission statement does or doesn't say? Didn't you check that out beforehand?

As for the 3 missed classes & then getting zeros....sounds pretty lenient to me. The private Christian college that I attended required a written excuse for each missed class or else you would get penalized.

That's the attitude you should have. Try to keep a positive outlook. If you concentrate on the negatives, then that's the only thing you will see. I truly wish you the best.

Ok, Let me make this clear. I knew about the tuition before hand! It is just ending up to be more of a burden and is more than I find the education really worth. On the note of the mission statement. I don't disagree w/ their mission statement. I didn't realize before that they leaned more on the "religious" side of things. As far as telling lik it is, sometimes that isn't best. People can just get offended and blow of the advice altogether. Not saying I am, just stating a fact.

Okay, maybe your college is as bad as you think it is, or maybe you're just going through a bit of homesickness/culture shock. Only time will tell. But even if you're at the wrong school, it bothers me that your only criterion for choosing a new one is where your BF plans to go. Shouldn't you be looking for the college that best serves your academic and professional goals?

Ok, and if he is more than just a bf? Even if he wasn't, the college he is probably going to go to is better fit for what I'm looking for in reality. I think I didn't look at it before because it was farther away from home. I'm fairly confident I made the wrong decision. I'm getting very tired of this thread and may have it closed. Bye.

Is there such a thing as being more than a BF, but less than a fiance?

Whatever he is now, he'll eventually be one of two things: your husband, or your XBF. Assuming the worst--that you could totally lose interest in him, however unlikely that is--would you still want to be at that college, for its own sake? If the answer is yes, then go for it. If the answer is no, then find a college that has the degree program and the atmosphere you really want.
