Wonderful! So glad the surgery went well for you!
Now that it's over, I'll share a story with you. I didn't want to say anything before because it's the kind of thing that can scare someone facing surgery, even though it ended up being completely harmless in the end.
The day of my surgery, my doctor came to see me in pre-op to reassure me and see how I was doing. He asked if I'd gotten a good night's sleep, and I said, "More importantly, did
you get a good night's sleep??" The one thing I was afraid of, from watching too many 20/20 reports on ABC, was them leaving a sponge or something in me. He and the OR nurse assured me repeatedly that they have great counting procedures in place and that doesn't happen.
That was in Feb 2006. In July 2007, when I knew we were moving, I got all our medical records together to take with us across the country. I read through everything because how often do you get the chance to read your medical records, you know?
I was so surprised to find my OR report that said that after my surgery, lo and behold, they came up short on count by
one sponge! They had to bring in a portable X-Ray to the operating room to scan me and find it, then they had to open me up, get the sponge, and close me up again.
No one mentioned this to me, I'm sure because it didn't amount to anything. They did do the count, they did find the sponge, it was all good. But it was just the fact that this was the one thing I was so afraid of, and it happened, just kind of made me LOL a little a year and a half later.
Anyway, I'm really glad that you are doing so well. Take full advantage of your time off, get plenty of rest, and DON'T overdo things! No stairs, no lifting, follow doctor's orders! BTW, I checked my scar the other day, and it's barely even visible anymore, just the slightest bit of pink left, but it's mostly white and blended in at this point.
