That was really nice that you went to the hospital to visit with him. Hospital visits are a wonderful ministry, some people, even church members dont get a visit from anyone when they are in hospital.

By the way, I am so glad you are back posting and back from Siberia.
So how do you deal with the demon? I guess I am confused to why it is a demon and not just someone with a foul mouth that needs sanctified.

Actually, it never occurred to me that it could be a demon until it suddenly hit me and then my wife said later she felt the same way.

It was not the foul mouth that bothered me as much as the unreasonable hatefulness of her demeanor. I seldom come across it in public places and was a bit taken aback. It did not make sense until the notion (discernment?) that it could be demonic occurred to me.

What was going on wasn't just spiritual, though. Heart attacks are sudden, and cause friends and family to stop in their tracks and attend to the emergency. Who knows, she might have had plans to go out of town, or plans for him to be in a wedding. Or maybe she had tried talking him into assisted care housing and he'd refused. She might have been angry with him, or at the situation in general, but knew it wasn't appropriate to express it to a heart patient, so she took it out on others.

It sounded like she wanted sympathy for what she was going through, but knew that he would be the only recipient. She was facing the possibility of losing him at any moment. Things would inevitably rush through her head -- will she have to clean out the house, will she need to invite him to live with her family, who else does she need to inform... a lot of life gets shaken.

But yes, the fear of doing things spiritually wrong, or frustration with God for not answering immediately, or arrogance over Christians who "just didn't know how it's done," or extra demonic influence... who knows, all of the above? And more.

Glad she calmed down.

Most likely, it's some demonic influence to me. A Christian can not curse like that in a normal environment. She didn't want God to heal the person?? I got that impression.

You had first hand experience of a demonised Christian.

No wonder their was no response to their prayers. No doubt they were praying with spiritual pride and soulish and selfish desires.

His Will is always done when His Will and Purpose is being done.

Well done Jim, no doubt our Lord said: "Well done faithful servant!"

No doubt the other person needs spiritual help.

I could take it further but I won't, because it might cause a debate.

Demons hide, they masquerade as character traits (or at least mine did). I suspect that the whole thing was triggered by the Manifest presence of God there.

Sort of like when Jesus walked into a room and a demon cried out.

In my case I was sitting in a worship service in 1982, I agreed with everything that was said and everything that had happened in the service. Something rose up inside of me and was compelling me to cuss the pastor (my friend) out. It was not me, but I realized it had been with me hiding as it had been for a long time. I did manage to resist this, but it took every once of strength I had.

Some friends prayed with me that night and I got free. It was a spirit that called itself blasphemy.

I can’t tell the tale any other way, that’s the way it happened.

It wasn't a normal environment -- her father was suddenly dying. She was doing what she believed God wanted her to, when more Christians came in with a different methodology. How was she to know Jim wasn't a Scientologist, or Satanist, or Heaven's Gater.

Jesus didn't treat people having demon as a sign of them being wrong. It was an oppression that rendered the person a victim, and He wanted them to be free. For the woman to rebuke the devil was not necessarily a disturbing or accusatory action toward the patient -- it was wrestling against the principalities.

Jesus said that believers would be known by these signs -- casting out devils included. The panicked method, the swearing, the frustration -- there could have been any number of reasons she was so distressed an antisocial. Jim brought peace and calm into the situation. Quiet confidence in God's ability to heal.

Both methods were scriptural. We are asked to support other believers, and use our individual gifts to edify the Body of Christ. Jim brought his giftings at an opportune time to support her when she was feeling weak. We should expect family members to be distraught in emergencies, and to calmly give them space.
