  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well,I found out the lady that had baby parrotlets had the variety I do not want, the Pacific! It seems so hard to find a breeder of Green Rumps or Spectacled Parrotlets around my area.I don't believe in shipping, hand feeding or wing clipping,so I just got a baby blue male parakeet. I found a couple companion bird forums and read many incidents of parrotlets bites drawing blood. The variety wasn't mentioned, but even though I strongly suspect it was the one you find everywhere the "Pacific",I decided I would not take that chance with myself or my 4 year old granddaughter.

I named him Opie. He is just sitting on the bottom of his cage watching me right now. I'm sure I will be pleased with his company and cheerful nature, no matter what. Can't wait till he starts playing with his toys,LOL!

LOL,well at least I know my granddaughter and I will be safe. BTW I changed his name to Bizzy. Because I know he will be,LOL!

On a serious note though it is sad that people do not realize what a parrot's beak can do to your furniture, your body or someone else's, and your hearing! I always thought about the macaws"wow this bird can crack a brazil nut"! They can also amputate a finger very easily.

eww, never thought of them being able to take a finger off. I will definitely make sure I keep a safe distance away from them when I see them at pet stores!

now moving on to the next topic:

congrats.gif

I hope you and Bizzy have been having a great time getting to know each other!! Has your granddaughter met him yet?

Thank you ceedaisy. No my granddaughter hasn't met Bizzy yet,not until this Sat. Oh yes,I have been playing bird sounds for him which he enjoys, but he especially likes the Budgie sounds. And he enjoys when I talk to him,of course. He still is not moving around his cage much, but I have only had him since Friday evening.

Yes, unfortunately pet stores or bird fairs don't make a habit of telling people how hard many birds can bite[or the racket they can make] and what a nasty temperment some have when they reach sexual maturity, that is another reason any potential pet owner needs to do their own research before they even think of searching for a breeder or a pet store, because most times those people are only thinking of the sale, $.

Yep. Research, research, and more research. One thing I always tell people is that even if they don't want to adopt an older animal it's vital to visit a reputable rescue before getting a youngster. By doing this you get a good handle on the animal at maturity, and staff who look out for the best interest of the animals won't be telling you lies; they'll speak from direct experience with only the animal's best interest in mind. Hands on research is the best kind.
