• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I saw my new psychologist for the first time today. It was a basic introductory visit, so we didn't go too in depth.

He agreed that most of what I need is to learn some new coping skills.

The only problem that I had with him was a statement regarding my attractions to other guys (yes h*mos*xuality). He felt that it was "almost impossible" to get rid of these attractions and that the most we could hope for was to "minimize and compartmentalize" these attractions. But he did respect my belief on them and said that he would help me with them. Thankfully, as I've been involved in a ministry that works in this area, it's not a major area that I need work in right now.

So, I'm going to start seeing him every other week for now. That's the correct amount for right now. I'm not sure that I could handle anything more intense.

Anyhow, I wanted to post an update.

Godbless All!

Do not worry too much about your therapist's attitude about homosexuality. My therapist respects my beliefs about pornography. I struggle with it constantly, and he agrees with me that while he sees nothing wrong with it pathologically, it causes me shame, and I need to avoid shame producing behaviors.

God bless your new relationship with this therapist. I have an accountability friend who prays for my therapist and I when I go to therapy. I also share everything with her and she helps me process what I have learned in therapy. She is a believer who has guided me in my faith so much as I have recovered from BPD.

Good luck,
trish
