So, I just moved to a new city. Well, I moved from the fringes of civilization to a town, or rather from one city to another city as far as Norway is concerned (small place)
And I have been looking about a bit for a new church
I work in a missions agency, so through work I get a lot of input about different churches, and I tried three. The pentacostal church Filadelfia, but I didn't quite feel it was the right place for me. I tried the missions' own church Misjonssalen, and while it was very very good, I still tried another one. And BANG. Just the kind of church I want to be a part of.
I have visited their church a few times before, on concerts and festivals, but never anything more than that until just now.
Well, I decided to give Oslo's SubChurch a go.I like the music they have, I like their involvement with metal, goth and other subcultures. But I had no idea just how deep this church went with their ministry, or how blessed they have been.
It's a small church, running a café in the middle of the most attractive part of Oslo. I have no idea how they manage to pay for it all, but a friend of mine told me the rough outlines; God has really blessed this congregation in many ways!
Blessed them with money and opportunities to get to where they are.
It is easy to see why too... This congregation has worked so hard and so much to reach a part of the population which is to a very large part untouched. A part of the population which is in truth searching for meaning, and truth.
A part of the population most Christians shun. I am not talking about inmates, or hookers, or even criminals. I am talking about people who are into goth, metal, and some who are deep into the occult. The church has worked together with a place called heretic basement, which is by no means a Christian place. Working together with these people, they have gotten to spread the gospel into groupw of people where most Christians never go. They have shown love in places where most Christians turn their back and run. Or simply spit.
For years I have had a desire for these people to be reached- to be met where they are, not shunned because of their style, or because of their desire to search and find spiritual truth.
Finally a congregation working to reach these people.
