  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I finally get the joke!

:doh:I was reading this "95 thesis against dispensationalism" here and a little ways down the list I finally found out what Dispensationalists are getting at when they blather about "rightly dividing the Word of Truth..."

I never knew before that they meant literally dividing! That's so queer!
I always thought they meant the obvious plain rendering of the text--that is, discerning--the very thing that every Christian tries to do when they read the Bible. That's so hilarious!

Yeah, pretty scary there, myways. "We're gonna split out this part ... and drop it. It was relevant at some other dispensation."

It's also a misuse of the Scripture that actually says, "rightly dividing the word of truth." The term was used for doing a "straight cut" through a forest to get at the correct destination. The term was not used to cut stuff off as irrelevant -- just to "cut through" the things that held you back, quickly and decisively.

Hi Myways:

Let’s take a good look at Thesis #12 for a deeper understanding about what Dave here is laughing about:

Dave’s Source

12. Contrary to the dispensationalists’ frequent citation of the King James Version translation of 2 Tim 2:15, “rightly dividing” the truth, as evidence for the need to divide the biblical record into discrete dispensations, all modern versions of Scripture and non-dispensational commentators translate this verse without any allusion to “dividing” Scripture into discrete historical divisions at all, but rather show that it means to “handle accurately” (NASB) or “correctly handle” (NIV) the word of God.
Wrong, wrong and dead wrong. While I do not label myself as any Dispensationalist (a funny word indeed), I do regard many among them as members of our “His BODY” Church (Col. 1:24 = Church #2 here) saved by God’s grace through faith apart from works. Eph. 2:8-10 (Gospel #2 here). The actual Greek term in Paul’s wording to Timothy in 2Tim 2:15 (BLB) is “orthotoemo” (#3718) literally meaning “to cut straight.” I prefer the ‘rightly divided’ translation, because the ‘cutting’ action is working to ‘divide’ Scripture into subcompartments that mirror the cutting of rows in a Garden where God’s Living Word has a spirit (OT), soul (Pauline Epistles) and physical body (Kingdom Epistles) and “the three are into the One” (1Jn 5:8) in the exact configuration of the Father (spirit), Son (blood witness) and Holy Spirit (water witness Helper) like this (pic*).

30.jpg

Open up the [pic*] above to realize that we have ‘veils’ falling between the Father and Son and Holy Spirit in the very same way they also appear in God’s Living Word (Scripture), because Scripture has a ‘triune’ nature exactly like “The Word” (F+S+HS) corresponding to the three sections of the Tabernacle of Moses and the Temple:

05.jpg

The ‘Second Veil’ stands between the Holy of Holies (OT) and the Holy Place (Pauline Epistles) like the “First Veil” is the Book of Acts standing between the Pauline Epistles and the Kingdom Epistles ‘rightly dividing’ the Word of Truth into the three witnesses of God’s Living Word. These three divisions just happen to be written ‘to’ the members of the three primary ‘dispensations’ (Vine's) of Israel (OT) the Body of Christ (Pauline Epistles) and the Bride of Christ (Kingdom Epistles) that many of you want to mix together to ‘wrongly divide’ the Word of Truth. Those of you blinded by various forms of “Denominationalism” (2Thes. 2:7-12) are tearing down the “First Veil” to mix the ‘water and blood’ (1Jn 5:6) ministries of Jesus Christ (Kingdom and Grace respectively) together into an abomination that God sent to NOBODY. You cannot toss all professing Dispensationalists into the same pot, because they ‘divide’ Scripture in many different ways to start our mystery church at Pentecost (Acts 2 = Traditional-dispys), the conversion of Paul (Acts 9 = Ultra-dispys), his separation by the Holy Spirit (Acts 13) and all the way over into Acts 28:28 (hyper-dispys).

So, where do ‘you’ want to place the ‘Two Veils’ in God’s Living Word for ‘rightly dividing’ the Word of Truth? :0)

In Christ Jesus,

Terral

myway, saids that 2 Tim 2:15 is usless and is hilarious and won't dignify by using the WORD that he used for he is not showing respect for the inspired WORD of God. In Christ time myway would have been stoned IF he miligned the Mosaic Law or Moses , and it is good that this is the Age of Grace.

That paper that you quoted from probably did not mention Phil 1:10 where you need to TEST the things that are DIFFERING, IN ORDER that you may be pure and blameless for the Day of Christ.

Since you think that 2 Tim 2:15 is hilarious you probably think that Gal 1:9 is also hilarious where it says you are accursed if you preach any other gospel , that Gal 2:7 the gospel of the UN-circumision. You are Hilarious to me . You should know that Paul was a Dipensationalist and Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write 2 Tim 2:15 . Pretty Hilarious to ME , like Terral does , heh, heh.

dan p, in Christ's time you'd discover that the word used is the word for cutting through a forest -- not separating it on one side or the other, but on slicing through the superficial to get at the real meaning.

Paul was no dispensationalist. He didn't dispense with the Old Covenant, and he based the New Covenant on Abraham's covenant.

Hard to build a New Testament dispensation on a prior dispensation.

Paul was no dispensationalist. He didn't dispense with the Old Covenant, and he based the New Covenant on Abraham's covenant.

I would go even further and say that tho Old Covenant was based on the New Covenant.
Consider Heb 8:
3 Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. 4 If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. 5 They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” [fn1] 6 But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.
The Atonement initiates the New Covenant Church, not the New Covenant and not the Church. These two have been around from the begining. The change in dispensation is based on God giving us the fulfillment of the Promise Covenant, which is Spiritual dominion--which is Christ in us, the hope of glory--roughly analogous to its literal type and shadow, the land contract.
The dispensations are not all the same and they overlap each other in different ways

In the Bible THERE is no other method of interpretation given than what was given to the Apostle Paul in 2 Tim2:15 and in Phil 1;10.

1) In the Covenant given to Abram , what were the rules that were given to him, That Abram would be a father of many nations Gen 12:1-3

2) Then we have the Mosaic Law and its house rules were 613 law, 365 positive yes rules and 248 negative rules.

3) Then Paul is given new rules, in 1 Cor 12:17, For since I practice this of my own will, have a reward; and since I have been entrusted with a DISPENSATION ( which is ) not of my own will.

More below.

4) Please notice that the word WITH in in the Greek Perfect tense, and go to any Greek book to understand what that means. Better tell you instead. It means PAST action with CONTIUING present results. In other words that when he was given that Dispensation to preach the gospel of the grace of God , he , Paul continued until he died preaching Only one gospel which the Gospel of the Grace of God.

5) Col1:25 Paul says of which I became a servant according to the DISPENSATION of God, the one having been given to me for you, to COMPLETE the Wotd of God.

6) Eph 1:10 with a view to the Dispensation of the fulness of times, to head up the all things in Christ

7) Eph 3:2 seeing that you have heard of the Dispensation of the grace of God having been given to me for you , read next verse

8) Eph 3:9 and to illuminate all as to what is the DISPENSATION of the Mystery etc and next verse

9) 1 Tim 1:4 where the word EDIFYING is NOT in the Greek text but the word DISPENSATION

10) Who nailed the Old Covenant to the cross, it was Jesus , who paid the sin for you and me. Not Paul, and where did you get that FROM.

11) The question that I have for you is , Which came FIRST , a Covenant or Grace , or which one is written down FIRST ?

12) If you say Covenant , you are WRONG.

13) It was us , in 2 Tim 2:9 Who has saved us --- which was given us in Christ before the world began . What that means , that 2 Tim PRE-dates Gen 1:1.

14) Eph 1:4 also PRE-dates Genesis 1:1 According as he hath CHOSEN us in Him before the FOUNDATION of the WORLD, means he then foreknew us before any Covenant. Have much more but will save it.

15) What does OIKONOMOS MEAN is house rules and what are they,

16) Just some of them, faith, grace, gospel of the grace of God, bema seat, justification, propitiation, reconciliation, redemption, santification, separation etc and these are the rules from the risen Christ that were given to Apostle Paul. The were not preached in the Old Covenant OR with Animal Sacifices like Abram, or Mose, for Christ was our ONE sacifice , thank you God.
