Hello, I'm 16 and have grown up in church my entire life, but haven't taken it too seriously until recently. I truly desire to live for God, but no matter how much I ask for forgivness, reassurance, and stronger faith, I cannot quit doubting if I'm saved or not. I'm worried that I have rejected Jesus too much and now there's no hope for me to be saved again, but at the same time I know that I am feeling conviction for past sins, but no matter how hard I pray I just can't seem to be saved. Am I too far gone?

No, you are not too far gone. But let me tell you where your problem is. Many may have told you that you simply need to believe for forgiveness. He most certainly will forgive you, but He wants you to come to the place where your faith is reinforced and strengthened by how you have responded to His grace, which is about more than just "believing."

The passage you need to study is 2 Peter 1:5-11. If you do what Peter was suggesting here, your doubts will start disappearing because you will KNOW you truly belong to Him, not just because you believe but because you are increasingly entering into obedience.

God bless, and feel free to ask questions if you like.

Isn't it better to have our assurance of salvation based upon God's own promises rather than our own works? We're not saved by works, so why should we have assurance of salvation by works? I assert that we have assurance of salvation based upon the fact that God cannot lie about his promise of eternal life(Titus 1:2), and that we receive everlasting life once we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9).

Well Lexmhll you say you have grown up in church your whole life....Ahh, doesn't answer the question though have you asked Jesus to come into your life. If not receive Jesus TODAY. Know what Jesus died for your sins by going to the cross....he died as your substitute to be punished for your sin, to the end that he'd grant you HIS righteousness. By FAITH you can believe that God sees you with your sins blotted out. NOW....if you've done that and I'm thinking maybe you have....and let's say you've been sinning and as you say you've been asking for forgiveness and you're struggling to feel it or sense it.

OK let me ask you something. I want you to envision in your mind a natural human being whom you love and you know they love you. It may be your mother or father, brother, sister or your best friend. Let's say they tell you they're going to do something for you some help you really need. Let me ask would you tell them, "I know you said you'd do A,B or C but I've got a problem....How do I know you'll do it?" Isn't it true that if you did that you would have hurt them and insulted them? You know why of course....you would have just questioned their integrity.

If they're an honorable and good person YOU KNOW what? They'll keep their word. You wouldn't question it. You would laugh if someone told you you need some special feeling. So....having their word which is as good as gold you would rejoice and be glad and even get excited about it. Lemnhll...take heart! YOU HAVE JESUS WORD and he loves you more than any mother, or friend could ever do. Jesus is a friend who sticks closer than a brother! Jesus said if you do sin you have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ the righteous! 1 John 2:1 What did Jesus say? If you confess your sins he is faithful and just to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 It's not feeling! It's rejoicing in the integrity of the promise. God said as far as the east is from the west so far will he remove your transgressions from you. Psalm 103:12 Now after you confess your whatever sin thank the Lord that you say you receive his forgiveness and cleansing AND as you continually rejoice and give thanks and praise to God eventually even the feeling of forgiveness will come. Wishing you all encouragement!

I understand your response, but my advice to him was not about trusting in works for salvation. It was about reinforcing his faith through works.

I know, friend. My point was that if we know we're not saved by works, how could we ever hope to have our faith reinforced through works? Our strength comes from God, not from our own accord. Know what I mean?

I live my life knowing that I'm not certain of my salvation- we are instructed to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, after all. Salvation is described as a past, present and future event. Keep this in mind. It seems a bit troubling at first, but I came to grips with it soon enough. If you live a life devoted to God, stumbling all the time but always coming back to Him, you're in a very good place. I'm not saying that you're necessarily saved, but this is a sign of perseverance.

As a Catholic, I'd obviously say that there's just a little bit more that you have to do, but that's anther discussion for another day.

My point is that grace demands a response. This may not be what you believe, and I'm peaceable with those who oppose me on matters of doctrine, but scripture teaches that those who do not respond to God's grace with obedience to the things that are important to Him can have that grace rescinded (Matthew 18:21-35), and a man's conscience will continue to bother him if he never does anything to reciprocate the love God has shown him.

I’d you are feeling convicted of sin, why do you think you are not saved?

Jesus says all that will come to Him will be saved

Let's see here, The devil tells you ''you're not saved , you're not worthy , Jesus can't love you and lot's of other trash'' .. Learn the Word Sis, use the power in Jesus name and cast out those ungodly attacks, speak the Word .. Do it , believe Jesus, he is not the liar, do it again and again as you bring your mind under submission .. Jesus gives us peace, so don't let the devil steal it , he is the liar and he won't stop until you take your stand on the promises in the Word .. The devil even tempted Jesus and said ''if you are the Son of God'' ? Our struggle is against spiritual wickedness and you have been give power and authority over it in Jesus name .. Prayers and peace little sister :amen: Go boldly to the throne of grace and receive it ..

There is no sin that cannot be washed away by the precious blood of our Savior. It’s nice of you to seek forgiveness, and I commend your desire to honor God in your life. Please don’t believe the lies of the enemy that you are not saved…remove every doubt from your mind. I’m praying that our Heavenly Father will reveal His infinite love and amazing grace to you in a powerful way and draw you closer to Himself in the days ahead.

You got some good counsel here, friend. We need to walk and talk with the Savior. Let me share a sound paper with you that I saw, which is to be our standing as we walk here with God:

DO GOOD PEOPLE GO TO HEAVEN ?

Yes, they certainly would go to heaven...if there were any good people! But the Scriptures plainly declare that there is not even so much as one good person on the face of the earth (Eccl.7:20; Rom.3:12). Moreover, the very things human beings call righteousness: morality, religion, philanthropy, pleasing personality---those are the things God calls "filthy rags" (Isa.64:6) because His holiness so far surpasses our righteousness.

No doubt you have said: "I believe that if I do the best I can and treat everyone fairly, I will go to heaven". Let us examine these claims to virtue. Be honest ---do you really do the best you can? Do you always treat everyone fairly? If not, you have ruled yourself out and to hell.

Heaven is for bad people...people that saw themselves condemned before God, and fled to Christ, the Savior. They trusted Him, and were delivered from God's judgment. But the so-called good people ---the ones who were so righteous in their own estimation that they did not need a Savior, are condemned to the blackness of hell forever. That is the gospel truth.

God will not trade you eternal life for a tarnished bunch of shabby morality, or religion, no matter how good you may regard it to be. He offers as an unconditional gift to you without any return at all, eternal life simply confessing your sin, and receiving His dear Son into your heart as Lord and Savior. "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom.6:23). "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life" (I Jn.5:10-12).

Don't try to earn everlasting life; don't try to prepare yourself for heaven. You would do a very bad job. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works" (Eph.2:8-9). Just turn yourself over to the Savior, let Him prepare you, and let Him give you His free gift of everlasting life (see John 14).

Believe---receive---rejoice! How simple it is! God planned it this way. "These are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His Name" (John 20:31). - from Good News Publishers

[ADDENDUM: Sometimes one is heard to say: I believe in Christ, but I can't say I am saved forever. Believing about Christ and thinking or reasoning about Christ is not communion with Him, and not believing in the heart (Rom.10: 9-13). One should understand that even devils believe and tremble (James 2:19), but one who speaks to the Lord Jesus personally, thanking Him for His sacrifice, and receives Him into his heart, shall surely be saved. An earnest seeker must believe what God has said and receive His precious Son; then will receive the indwelling Holy Spirit and be sealed as a "child of God" as "born again". - RLD]

Write us again sometime, Lexmhll, for we would like to know how you are doing and if you have found peace in trusting the Lord Jesus. We will pray for you to find Him and that "peace that passeth all understanding" as God enjoins us.

Hey guys, thank you all so much for the advice! I went up to the altar last night(which is something I never do because I'm an anxious person and don't like people staring at me) and told my pastor I've never felt sincere enough asking the Lord into my heart. He told me he knew I was sincere because my tears were proof and had prayer for me, and all my doubts faded away! I've still had little moments of being afraid I wasn't sincere but they don't last very long because now I know 100% I've been saved. Thank you again for all the wonderful advice and thank the Lord for ridding me of my doubts!
