I cant spell.

The thing I hate about me being a Aspie is that I cant spell and I want to be writer someday and yet I cant write. I have always try to inporve but it never gets any better. What really sticks is when I try to do online debates, I can handal the name calling, I can hadal the critzim, I cant handel it when they attack my bad gramer that has no sign of inproving. They tare me apart becase because if I cant not spell then how are they sapost to belive that I not some stupid moron who has no idea what he is talking about.

EDIT: Oh, one more thing, I know my problem is not true for all Aspie, This is just the case for me so sorry to any of the Aspies out there who are Great spellers.

Hey, I don't have Aspergers, but I can't spell either - and I've still had writing published Spelling is probably the least important factor in professional writing, since bad spelling is easily remedied - you just need a good computer spellchecker, and a good buddy to proofread your stuff before you send it off.

I am an aspie... don't give up... there are legitamate tools out there for all types of difficulties... Suggestion... check out software that would do spell check for you in the programs you need to use for your debates... and slow yourself down to use it maybe... I don't function well without spell check... I ignoe my spelling mistakes until I have my thoughts out then I make myself go back and check my spelling and grammar... it can be a combination of discipline and technology that help you compete with others. Hang in there... use your out of the box thinking to come up with a solution that fits you best.

I am not an Aspie, but I am aging. My spelling has gotten worse over the years. I use spell-check alot. I have to. I keep a thesauras and a dictionary nearby as well. You can buy the hand-held electronic dictionaries and thesauras at Radio Shack or other electronic stores. Carry one around with you.

For your age, you are doing just fine. I am researching Aspie and learning about it. I suffer from a condtion called Body Dysmorphic Disorder which is born out of a history of abuse. I am considerably older than you, yet I live alone with a dog. I do have family nearby. Living single and alone does not trouble me. Apostle Paul advocated celibacy but recommended marriage to those who could not resist temptation.

Apostle Paul lived a full, productive, and purpose-driven life, though he also had "a thorn in His side." He had a disorder of the eyes that made him disgigured and hard to look at. Though he carried this thorn, people loved Him and accepted Him unconditionally.

You will find your way with God in the driver's seat. You are young and ambitious. Trust God to guide you and wait on His timing. I waited on Him for many years before some of my prayers were answered and all for very good reason. I had much to learn before some of my prayers were answered.

Hang in there. Cling to God. Commune with Him. Let Him guide you.

You will lead a purpose driven life too. Slow it down and appreciate the "now." Now is what God has given us. Salvation happens in the "now." The past and future belongs to God.

This is a self-defeating statement.

You are saying *because* you are an aspie you *cannot* spell.

Firstly, I'd like to know why you think aspergers syndrome is responsible for your spelling abilities (or lack thereof in this case). Secondly, for the purpose of this question I'm entertaining the notion that indeed AS has had an "effect" on your spelling, and asking you this - now that you are aware of a shortcoming, what is standing in your way to overcome it?


Heres a completely unrelated issue that I feel is a good example:

Social skills. Now for many including myself AS has hindered the development of social skills. I can say, like you have with spelling, that *because* I have AS I *cannot* socialise.

Now just leaving it at that is getting me no-where. And I didn't. Still haven't, and won't ever, leave it at that - with ANY part of myself that could be labeled as retarded/hindered/substandard/etc.

Okay so my social skills haven't reached the typical 20 year olds level - but because I'm conciously aware of this as part of my personal understanding (aided by the AS diagnosis I received during my mid teens) I have actively sought to build social skills. Yes AS hindered the natural development of them, but in no way can it prevent- in some sort of firewalled/deadlock manner, me from proactively building them at this later point in my life. Through sharing my confusion, my struggles with understanding NTs who are able to translate I have gained social insight. Theres more to learn for sure, and it's not coming easy (I am an aspie after all!) but I want it and will get it bit by bit.

You may very well have poor spelling skills due to AS, but that doesn't mean you can't build them up through a motivated pro-active (and perhaps brute force) approach. The ability to spell can be yours, if you push yourself and apply that extra lick of effort.

I don't have anything as of yet but sometimes I find myself not able to even spell "what." I'll sit for up to 10 minutes until I finally remember how to spell "what."
