Why don't you think the planets are "real objects"?
The ancients realized that the planets were real objects.
And they worshipped them as gods.

Hercules - Not Mars, in Greek mythology, Ares was representative of Mars. Hercules was the son of Zeus and Hera.
Hercules and Ares are both Mars deities.
