• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi Guys
I think its time i publicly admit. I have a problem with drinks and smoking. Yet a few months back i gave my heart to the Lord and i pray for deliverance from this. My wonderful husband went to church one morning, felt the Lord touch his Lips and NEVER smoked another sigarette again. I have prayed for that deliverance and i believe!! Maybe for me it is a struggle i have to go through? Then? I Drink every night for the last 2 years. No wonder i weigh 130 kgs. SOme nights it's only one drink and others its like 6 whisky's (neat). It has come to this : My husband asked me nicely to stop as he doesn't want to loos me. I realised this is a problem and last night i didn't drink a thing, first time in years!!!

Never realised it was a problem.

Please pray with me. I now eat better and will really really try. I give this all in God's hands....

Regards

ok this is my first post here, so if i offend enyone... well turn the other cheek brother :)

Have you ever noticed how all of humanity is addicted to something?
i mean there is not a single person i know that does not do something for no other reason then that it gives pleasure, and they all do it repetedly...

wether its endulging in food, drugs, alcohol or going to the bathroom with the saturday
newspaper, we all do something for pleasures sake repeatedly.
whats more we all get cranky if these patterns are interrupted.

why are we humans as a species so addictable to everything that can in some way give us pleasure?

Hi Cathy,
Relax, that is what you should do first. Try not to get stressed out. (I know how hard that can be).
I am a recovering crack/alcoholic/nicotine/overeater addict. I will be clean & sober 8 years on Dec. 2nd of this year. It has been 31/2 years since I have smoked a cigarette and I have been eating healthy now for 3 years. Now that did not come easy, it took work from me and very many prayers :crossrc: and a 12 step program...If I can do this anyone can. God has helped me turn my life around. I wake up every morning and I surrender every part of my day to him because without him I can't do anything. I am praying for you and I know that you CAN DO THIS. If you need help just pm me and I will be there for you.....No matter what just don't pick up....
One more thing, I didn't quit everything at once. I did it step by step....God bless...

Godd bless... a life without pleasure?

im all for healthy living, but is it realy healthy to banish all instances of indulgence
alltogether?

as i indicated in my previous post, i think human beings have a natural disposition
to indulge.

ofcourse we can choose to ignore this urge and live with it, resisting all temptations,
but it seems to me that if we do we will never understand why it is that we are so tempted all the time...

am i the only one who wants to know?

Try to tackle one addiction at a time. I too drink and smoke and the two seem to go hand in hand. I only drink at the weekend so my alcohol intake maybe isnt as much as yours.
During the time of your 'fix', try and occupy yourself with something else. Filling up your spare time is paramount with overcoming any addiction, but if you are PHYSICALLY addicted to something, then maybe its time to visit a doctor.

Being a Christian doesn't automatically make all problems go away, but 98% of the people who get over an addiction believe in a higher source, so it does help immensely. Admitting the problem will also help a lot. Talk to God about it, and getting outside help is also good. If the problem is really bad, think about rehab. Talk to your husband about it, your minister, best friend. Set goals for yourself, and reward yourself with things like manicures or movies when you've succesfully met a goal. Pray, and I will be praying for you too.
