I know that the Bible says it's a sin if one former spouse leaves a subsequent spouse for the sole purpose of reconciling with his or her first spouse. If my ex-husband and his wife ever divorced and over time he came back, would it be a sin to get remarried? I'm not saying that's what I want, but it's just a question out of curiosity.

I think that since he's been with another woman, it would be just like marrying any other divorced person. I believe that in God's eyes, he is her husband now, not your's so for you to marry him would be to marry someone else's husband (like she did when she married him after your divorce).

I would think that since you were his first wife then you are the recognizable wife of his convenant...so if he lest the second wife it would be alright for the two of you to be reconciled. I am not trying to start a riot and maybe I should not have responded to this without having my bible present to back it up with some scriptures....

There are as many thoughts on this as there are on divorce itself. So far, I think there are two camps, really.

One camp, as Tonya mentioned, believes in a "covenant" marriage. Because you can never really exit a covenant, the first marriage would still have that covenant binding the two people together.

The subsequent marriages would not have that covenant, and therefore are, in the eyes of many, a wordly marriage not recognized as a covenant before God.

The other side of the coin says "no - the Bible clearly states it's a sin", which it does.

And then there's the gray areas. If you do not believe it's a sin to remarry after divorce, regardless of who that person is, then why would this be any different? Or the other phrase that is used a lot "it's not the unforgivable sin".

I don't have an answer to this one - I fall flat square in the middle...
