• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm a humanist, specifically, a transhumanist. The only part of humanism I disagree with is that it seems to regard humans as the end all be all of what we should be. True, it is about a continually progressive society, but that's not quite what I'm after. I'm after what's going to take us, physically, mentally, spiritually (if a soul exists), beyond being just 'human' entirely. Specifically I'd be an extropian transhumanist.

It depends on how you define "humanist". I used to consider myself an extropian transhumanist, but now I regard myself as a Eudaimonist, which is something like being a very friendly, tolerant, and self-examining Objectivist.

I regard the flourishing of the human individual as the primary goal of ethics -- and so I suppose I am "humanistic" in some sense, perhaps a "flavor" of humanist -- but my views differ from the humanists I meet online often enough for me to reject any self-identification as a humanist (hence, no humanist icon). Also, I can't stand the leftist political slant found, for instance, in the various humanist manifestoes. I'm roughly a libertarian.

But, regardless of the differences, I'm happy to see the humanist love for reason and science, and their well-wishing for humanity. I'm pleased to meet you.

Depending on the specific definition of "humanism" I may or may not be one myself, but I hold much sympathy for what I understand to be "humanism".
