  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yesterday, he came home from work in the middle of the day. That's not something he does lightly. If he feels bad enough to miss work, he is SICK. Today he's running around 101 F. (38.3 C for those on metric.) He can barely eat, and he staggers and sways like he's going to fall over if he tries to get out of bed.

We've discussed what signs to watch for that it's time to go to the doctor. I asked him initially when he thought he should go, and he responded with a tired, "You're asking me to think."

So then, if I decide he should, will he trust my judgment?

"To a point," he answered.

I'm afraid he's going to be stubborn and put off going to the doctor as long as possible, just the same as I did last month, when I had it. Meanwhile, a lot of liquids, over the counter medicine, food that is easy to digest, and NO getting out of bed unless he calls for me first. Our phone is one of those four-handsets-one-line types, with a base plus additional units spread through the house, and one can be used as an intercom to call another. So he doesn't even have to exert energy yelling out for me. All he has to do is page me from the bedroom, and I'll hear it in the living room. This system came in handy when I was sick. I still go in and check on him now and then, though.

Although this thread is marked Prayer Request, advice is also welcome if you can tell me 1.) how to know for sure it's time to go to the doctor and 2.) how to convince him to let me take him.

Thank you.

Iirc, when a temp gets to 104, it is a signal it's time to go to a doctor. Regular Tylenol should help bring the temperature down. But you said you had this last month? What advice did the doctor have for you? Unless his immune system is compromised, or he is regurgitating fluids (and becoming dehydrated), this might just be one of those things that has to work its way out of his system.

Bring him cool cloths, fill at hot water bottle with cool water, or wrap ice in a towel for him, put the fan on him. Bring him Tylenol to keep the fever down, make sure he's comfortable. Ask him what he needs from you, then do it. But if his temp spikes, insist that he goes to the doctor.

Praying he gets well...

He's still steady around 101 when the Tylenol wears off. He agrees to go to the doctor tomorrow if he's not better. Our urgent care clinic is open 9-5 on weekends.

Thanks for the prayers.

Thanks for asking. He's doing what I did... fever up and down, intense chills while it's rising, profuse sweats while it's falling. I've just spent the night washing bedding, pillows and all. He's still swaying a bit when he tries to get out of bed, so I need to help him back and forth from the bathroom. He is staying hydrated, and that's a good thing. I'm not going to church today because he may need me to take him to the doctor.

Sounds like my dad. SO stubborn. After weeks of pain he finally couldn't take the almost non stop pain and went to the ER. He had a 12mm kidney stone stuck in his kidney.

Get your husband to go to the doctor. Better to go now when its fixable then to go later when its way worse or not fixable. He needs to take care of himself as your husband. My wife and I agree that we are married and if we want to live to an old age together, it means going to the doctor when we don't feel good.

He's insisting on putting the doctor off until tomorrow. If he goes in today, it's $60, but tomorrow it's $20. *rolls eyes so far I can see my brain* I'll in turn insist that I drive. I do have anxiety about doing that, but I'd have more if he drives himself.

However, he is out of bed and was able to shower himself, whereas yesterday I needed to help him with his personal care. Fever is mostly staying down, and not going as high as it did.

Conversation just now.

Him: *stands up from his chair*
Me: Are you still getting dizzy when--
Him: *sways a little*
Me: Yeah. Never mind.
Him: It's been worse.

He is not currently running a fever.

yeah I was going to say, that's how my bronchitis started when I was 14. fever. sleepy. not feeling like myself, having weird dreams when I dozed off. no appetite. Nauseous. lightheaded. My mom and dad let it go all weekend thinking it was a strange cold. By monday, I was hacking and coughing so much I nearly puked and my throat started to ache. We had to get me antibiotics, and because we let it go so long not only did I miss school that day, I missed school for 2 additional days AND swim practice all week. not to mention, in the middle of class I'd start hacking up a loogie and scare all the other students.
