• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I take it your friends are the ones who know you SI. The thing about depression is that it can cause you to isolate yourself. It can also cause you to to feel as though you don't want to burden people with your problems.

The first step for you to start pulling out of depression is to start talking about it to someone who can help. That is pretty much what you did by posting in here. I would also suggest you also talk to some older people about how you feel. Are there any older people you trust you can think of who you can talk to about this? Your parents, your pastor...etc. If your friends know and you open up to them that is good but if you really want to get out of depression you have to go further than that.

Who can you start talking to about this?

I think that is a good start. Also, take a look at this web site by Billy Graham, they have a section on Depression for Christians They have some really good advice on that site.

It is good that you are going to take the first step of talking to your pastor. You want to open up about what you are going through. Don't get discouraged if you get some bad advice from someone either. The only people who really know how bad depression is are people who have suffered it and professionals. So that means you will have to learn about this yourself, for the sake of yourself. The next step will be to make sure that you get in contact with a professional. SI is serious and needs to be addressed with professional help. There is nothing wrong with that. Just like the Billy Graham web site says "God gave doctors and their medical knowledge to us; one of the Apostle Paul's closest companions was Luke, whom he called 'the beloved physician'"

CharlieGee, I'm sorry you are suffering depression. To get out of depression you will need to slowly step your way out. Start by praying, seeking the Lord through worship, opening up to those who love you, and by getting professional help.

Please get back to us here in the forum and let us know how your meeting with your pastor goes. We have all suffered the same pain you have and we care about you.

You sound like you have the courage to get through SI. I also understand that you don't want to approach the problem with meds. However, professional help is more than taking pills; it is about getting help by people who are educated in depression and how to treat it. Refuse the meds if you like but get involved with the group counseling and therapy.

I'm glad you are taking the step to see your pastor. You are making steps in the right direction.
