A bit of background: instant messengers and the like have recently been expanding their array of emojis and some of them are not very nice. For instance, there's a hand giving the finger in Hangouts, and it's near the other hands doing things like giving thumbs up/down, peace sign, etc. I'm not looking forward to the time I want to give my boss a thumbs up, but accidentally flip him off instead. Not only that, but the expansion has also included couples and families and, not surprisingly, for every straight couple, there's a same-sex counterpart (actually, 2 counterparts).
I went to a Google Hangouts forum and was told that you can remove all emojis or none of them--nothing in between. It was also recommended that I use Hangouts feedback feature to express my concern.
Obviously, asking them to remove certain emojis from their entire distribution would be a waste of bandwidth, but I'd like the option of removing what I don't want from my own system. I also don't have to express which emojis I find offensive and why, but I think I should.
Now telling them what's wrong with the finger is pretty easy, but the homonormative ones are another matter. Google has already demonstrated hetrophobic tendencies, which means to be effective, I'll need some gentle words to turneth away wrath. Which one's would you use?
