  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This was brought up at another board.
How tolerant was He?
How tolerant would He be today?

I want to read my bible and pray on it before I come up with a real answer.:crosseo:

Jesus was tolerant of everyone when He was on this earth. Obviously no one was punished or destroyed even though they could have been. Some were rebuked and many were chastised, but no one was punished as God will punish the wicked in the end.

The word says that when Jesus comes again He will come in judgment of the world. I don't think His tolerance will be in the future what it was in the past. Mercy is the key and that is what we should seek for everyone. For if justice is meted out then there won't be one of us here, past, present, or future.

^^ good point. It would be best to start that conversation by asking what their definition of tolerant is. Like many words today, it has been hijacked and twisted to mean something other than it has in the past. By today's standards, Jesus calling people a brood of vipers or turning over the tables in the temple would be considered "intolerant".

What we can say clearly is that Jesus always acted in love, and always will. But love is not at all the same thing as the current definition of tolerant. So, which to them matters more? Is it better to be tolerated into hell or loved into heaven?

Should I be asking my questions in the New Christian section? I feel that I need conservative Christian help not just everyone's help because I believe conservatives stick to and understand scripture best. If I don't belong here yet I am sorry.

I told you guys I'd need your help. :)

Personally, I hope you stay here. Your questions are a welcome diversion from the Politics that has dominated conversation for the past couple of months.

Okay I wrote this whole long thing and then the Network timed out.

As you all know every kind of Christian is allowed in the New Christians section from liberals to conservatives to anything in between. If I ask in there I can get answers and possibly some of it will turn into arguments or debates.

I've never allowed anyone to lead me by the nose but I feel that conservative Christians stick to scripture very closely. Close enough for me. I feel that liberals would like to go to Heaven and be saved and want God's love but do not want God's rules, obligations and certainly do not have time for His word. They do have time for His word when it benefits or suits them and even then the words of God are twisted to mean something wrong.

I am not just saying that to be judgmental or mean I am saying that from what I've experienced, witnessed and what I've done myself. I want to know God in a way that is good in His eyes. I think conservatives teach His Word and know His word in a way that is good in His eyes. We know we must pray for forgiveness daily and thank him in everything we know we are not sinless but we do not think that sin, blasphemy or that evil is okay, acceptable or that God changes. We also do not think (well I do not think) that Jesus died on the cross so that we may please the flesh or indulge in and be accepting and condone sin. I believe God sent Jesus to die for our forgiveness so that when we are forgiven and saved we may try hard daily to walk in His footsteps and try to do things that are better and good and Holy andd pleasing to God. Not so that we can continue in our old ways and forget what He has done for us onyl to pray at the end of the day and say "Oh yeah sorry."

Jesus was one of the most intolerant people who ever lived. He was loving, and merciful, but not remotely tolerant.

Jesus' primary message which he told to everyone was that his way was the only way and everyone who disagreed with him was wrong and the only way to be right was to go his way.

I'd say tolerant is an incorrect term to use. It's more like he is able to see the foolishness of man, and have pity on us.

Someone said they think if Jesus came back today he wouldnt have us living by levitical laws.

How do you all feel about that statement?

Anybody?:o

Though I don't know what they are if they are in the bible I think He would expect us to live by all of His law because God does not change as we do. If it is written....it should not be put behind our backs, so to speak. Times and culture have changed God has not. Am I wrong?

Also this:
For truly I say to you, Till the heaven and the earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any way pass from the Law until all is fulfilled.

I agree. We would not be living by Levitical Laws. We would however, still live under God's moral law which is encompassed in the Ten Commandments.
