Ok...With all the stuff I've posted and looked up online help files, Windows forum, Guru sites; I still can't figure out how to sync Windows Live Mail2011 that came with this computer when I was running Win7, to Outlook.com on-line so I can send something by email from my computer to a email address online.

I thought when I upgraded to Win10 it would have a new on board email program; nope, I found out that they did away with support for Live Mail; guess they expect people to use on-line mail.

Also there are old sites on-line that when you try to send them email it opens up Windows Live mail.

I have tried to do what the help sites say to do but it never works.

I just tried to send a shortcut I had on my desktop to Outlook so I could attach it to bookmarks in Slimjet; but it says it could not find matches for the mail box Outlook.com.

Anybody know how to do this? Thanks in advance.

Well I manage to get Windows live mail 2011 to work with my outlook.com acct. Before I was going thru outlooks syncing help online; but they had me trying to set up the server smtp, pop3, imap protocols; which never worked. So this time; after delving deep into the Microsoft support site, I found a relatively easy way to go into live mail>file>export mail>accounts>fill in the needed info and it worked. Can now send mail from my computer; d/l mail off my online accts and read offline; like the old times.

I had before set up gmail thru live mail, so I tried sending an email and was able to send a post thru, but google sent me a warning note saying that my gmail account was being accessed from an unsecured device. So Win Live mail 2011 is probably too old to have the latest security software; I wont use it unless I need to; but there are some old sites on line if you want to send email to them you need an email client on your computer.

It's good to see that you've found a solution. For the record, the program is old but your antivirus (whatever you may be using) should be scanning your emails anyway.

If you want to use a proper email client, I suggest Mozilla Thunderbird. It's free, by the same people who make the Firefox web browser. It's pretty straight forward to setup and use.

It's probably just a WLM security setting for the connection that you need to change.

You can use an extension to provide "mailto" functionality for web mail. Here's one for outlook. And for gmail I use the excellent "Checker Plus".
