Massive urban areas would have terrible traffic jams...

I don't see how to run or escape with at least some of your stash w/o being a sitting target in traffic going no where.

Besides, there will be runs on gasoline too.

I'm seeing Chicago bombed and there being no where to go, literally

Best to have a go to underground hiding place then?

Some of us do not live in the country side in small towns. In fact, millions live in large urban areas, and are older and have health issues, so cant run or escape physically.

I've read that radiation poisoning is a terrible way to slowly die.

Hmmm. Well we are dying from the moment we are born, are we not?

Not everyone lives in a large urban area. That's 20% of 330-350 million so 70 million who survive and maybe half survive so 35 million. Go for it and being defeatist never helped anyone.

I don't mind to graduate but I reckon I still might be useful to teach some youngins. And keep them alive and make some shelters and heal some and protect them and then when the moment is right, help them get away while I create a distraction. That sound awesome. Praise Jesus!

I wouldn't be sad at all. Nope then I would have lived a good life and made it count. Praise God! That's why we are here.

When I was a kid and reading the Bible in class, I remember reading this and thinking how awesome it is to be a Christian!

40His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. 42Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
Acts 5:40-42

We are lost if our area is affected from an exchange in nuclear war. We should be responsible in ways we can to use our votes and political voice to not have our leaders approach closer to that possibility. But as Christians with trusting the Bible, it may be seen that there isn't prophecy showing that we will be subject to that, which I think there would be if that was really going to be the case. There is though warning to live responsibly, such as not be destructive to the world around us with any of our choices, as it shows from Revelation 11:18, for instance. Prepping should also take sustainability into account.

Many urban areas have former underground bomb shelters but are they stocked with supplies, food, and water?

I will help anyone who wants information. I will spend hours helping you. Narrow it down a little while protecting your privacy.

If you live in a densely populated region, then see the 14 day topic where I posted a map. Your best bet is to get away if you have no supplies and too many people.

I consider it my Christian duty to help anyone with rational practical inexpensive sound advice.

How to prep when its nukes?

For basics, not much different than preparing for other disasters. You have to look at what your needs are and figure out how to get/keep them when the disaster happens. You need food, water, clothing, protection, transportation, light, heat, barter items, etc.

As for prepping specifically for nukes (assuming you're not where one actually hits), you need to shield yourself from the radiation that will be present for a few days following the attack. There are sites that go into details about how to do this. How to protect yourself from nuclear fallout (tips about radiation, building an expedient shelter, etc)

If you go to that website, you can enter a zipcode and the site will show where there are public fallout shelters. Do not expect much.

A Christian or Christians who went there could volunteer as there would be an enormous amount of work to do and so benefits everyone. Be part of the solution.

With nuclear concerns then the main issue is blocking radioactive iodine that are isotopes that would absorb into your thyroid. That would make survival extremely difficult. Potassium iodide is taken just before and it blocks the radioactive iodine isotope. Otherwise your body couldn't control metabolism and body temperature. If you didn't have that then kelp would work or eating nori which is a seaweed rich in iodine.

Strontium isotopes in a blast concentrate in calcium rich food like milk so under nuclear fallout conditions you try to avoid contaminated milk.

Your goal is stay inside and minimize dust that leaks through and into your space. People going into a basement first pile up dirt against the windows and store up more water than you think you need.

The direct link for disaster information...
Home | disasterassistance.gov

I did some refugee ministry. What some did in history was carry photographs with them and wrote down information on the back. Then when refugees met together, they showed the photographs and told their stories. Sometimes another refugee would know something and by doing this over and over, then end up finding lost loved ones. Without a photo and documentation is would be nearly impossible to do that by just describing what they look like.

In mass confusion, people get separated during disaster and wartime. Make sure children traveling with you have YOUR information in case they get separated so someone can get them back to you or a relative.

I know of several cases where young children were separated yet decades later were able to find sisters and mothers and fathers and aunts and so on by using this practical method.

Here is an example of a young Dinka man from Southern Sudan who had to flee and travel thousands of miles at age seven who survived and finally was reunited. GOD still is in charge and works miracles. I have seen this happen with my own eyes.
