Hi,

I've heard something about praying the Psalms or scriptures or something and I was wondering how you do it and how you pray in general. Is there a right way? Is there a wrong way?
Well, my method long ago was to split Psalms into three blocs -- starting at Psalm 1, Psalm 50, and Psalm 100.

Then read the Psalm. If you're short on time, read one psalm a day.

(also , Psalm 119 is huge. So expect to get ahead in the 100's, because you'll fall behind at 119.)

Write down what you think it says about you now, and where God wants you.

Then pray as a result, for God's help toward what He wants.

Read through the Psalms, out loud. Sing. Dance. Write. Do whatever the heck you want to do to communicate with God.

The right way is to pray from your heart, the wrong way is to pray it like a parrot, and become a babbler.

Someone asked the same sort of question on Christian Advice, have a check of the forum as well.

Hi,

I've heard something about praying the Psalms or scriptures or something and I was wondering how you do it and how you pray in general. Is there a right way? Is there a wrong way?

A wise man once said:

And when you pray, you are not to be as the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners, in order to be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will repay you.

And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition, as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him.

Pray then in this way:
Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
[For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen]

For if you forgive men for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.

Matthew 6:5-15
