• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

In social situations I'll sometimes drift off and get lost in my thought with a foggy mind feeling and have trouble focusing on the present situation. If I don't get good sleep it's really bad but I know most of it is depression and anxiety. The better I am feeling in those areas the less this problem happens. Besides having no depression and anxiety, is there a good way to prevent this from happening? It's weird. If anything is missing in life it can get worse. If I'm hungry or very thirsty, it's worse; if I'm tired it's worse, and of course if I'm depressed it's worse. They all involve something missing or me wanting something. It also happens while driving sometimes and it's difficult to force myself to focus on driving when it happens.

I think it may be your body insisting on good care. It's telling you you need consistant rest, good nutrition on a regular basis, to stay hydrated. When depression is an issue in our lives, our bodies really need good care. The symptoms you speak of are common symptoms of low blood sugar from not eating or from eating improperly, dehydration and lack of sleep. And the thing is that all these things are related. Dehydration can cause lack of sleep, as can eating improperly, and lack of sleep can cause us to forget to drink enough water and cause us to make poor food choices. It sounds to me like this is a time when you need to slow down and do your best to focus on giving your body what it needs.

Prayers for you,

Thank you for your reply and concerns :)
I eat healthy with a lot of protein, drink only water, take vitamins, exercise, and my sleep is kind of odd. I usually get about 5 hours one night then 7 or 8 the next. I'm going to start using melatonin this weekend to guarantee at least 8 hours every night (hopefully). I think I have high cortisol levels, mostly being caused by PTSD. My PTSD is improving a lot though and it's only going to get better, so I think I'm going to be fine soon :)

Also try practicing mindfulness....basically just focus all your attention on the present moment and what you are doing, and push away unecessary thoughts about the past or the future, unless you are trying to think of something by choice.

Thank you I'm going to try that. The past is always messing with me and my confidence. I feel like I have more reasons to be negative than positive based off my past so it makes it difficult

I'm probably dehydrated too. I drink only water but only a couple of glasses a day. I might start forcing a bunch down

The basic equasion for water is to take your weight in pounds and exchange them for ounces. Divide that in half, and that's your approximate need to get and stay hydrated. So, in other words, a one hundred pound person would require at least fifty ounces of water daily.
