• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is all a little new, so I'm not a seasoned veteran when it comes to dealing with depression or anxiety. At times I feel like i'm doing okay, but sometimes i feel like I won't be able to make it through the day. Work is very difficult and I can't concentrate at all. This proves to be a great hinderance to my profession (engineering) since i'm using my brain all day.

Anyone got any suggestions or techniques on how to make it through those difficult periods without quitting or giving up? I feel like my job performance is really suffering, and I don't want those around me to see it.

Hope you are all doing well, God bless!

Think of your mind as piece of engineering. God orginally designed you, so who best to consult to repair it. Try to understand your problem to best of your abilities, talk with counselors/Pasters to help you understand what is going on in your head.

Luke 6:46-49
Building on a Solid Foundation

46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? 47 I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49 But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

Keep that perspective and be patient with yourself and forgive yourself when you crash. Try to take your syntoms and write them down, write down what you are feeling in blog or in a journal. When you are of rational mind, can review that data. Be honous with yourself and what you think it might be.

Example, after I gave up playing MMO games. I started getting this "loneliness attacks". Like my heart would rip a hole in it and all my energy just poured out. Took like a month to find out that it was a Fame dysfunction. I gave lot help to people here and when they didn't respond, I took it as mass unappresiation. Caused massive emotional damage. This was in my subconquence, cause I normally not seeking attention. After I figured that out, it went away.

Use tools you find in Google and websites like http://www.coping.org/growth/burnout.htm to help you feel out the problem.

I hope this helps you bro.

I make a choice to rest and hold onto Jesus and His strength for the next 15 minutes. I don't think any further than that. When the 15 minutes are over, I tackle the next 15 minutes. After a while, I can go for 30 minutes, pretty soon, I can go an hour, but always rest in Jesus. Picture yourself in His arms. You are His little child and He loves you.

This technique has helped me many times.
