I agree with trusting God and having faith in Him to fulfill His word...but lets see what His word is actually instructing you to do.
You have to look at this verse in its context.
MT 6:25 "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
MT 6:26 "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
MT 6:27 "Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
MT 6:28 "So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
MT 6:29 "and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
MT 6:30 "Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
MT 6:31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
MT 6:32 "For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.MT 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
MT 6:34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
The two verses you talk about are bookends to this whole block of scripture. The KEY, is the verse I bolded "Seek you first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all theses things will be added unto you". That is how you translate the verses into practice, as you put it.
Now, "seeking the kingdom of God" does not refer to a place (I.E. Heaven)...it refers to submitting to God as the King of your life, putting Him in the seat of authority over your territory and decisions. If you diligently seek to have Him as your King and diligently seek to live in the righteousness you have been made in Christ, all the things the heathens scurry and fret over will be added unto you.
I do agree that this does not entail quitting your jobs (unless your King tells you to) or sitting at home with your head buried in your bible (unless your King tells you to)...it simply means that instead of placing the things of this world at the top of your priority list, place God at the top and He will make sure you have all the things you need, even if what He has you do, is not directly getting those things.
I hope that makes sense.
