How to create an altar?

I used to have an altar to God when I was younger and at my old house but my family doesn't have one anymore. I thought it would be nice if I could make an altar for us then. We don't go to church that much due to us being busy and the church is a bit far so building an altar and praying to God in our home would be much better. We have a lot of religous things like crosses, rosaries, holy water that is 5 or 6 years old, Pictures of God just laying around so I want to create a place just for God in our house. Thing is I don't know anything about making an altar so if anyone has an altar or made one before that could help me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

If you think about it the purpose of altars is for sacrificing animals on. I'm not sure that your family would approve of that .
Before Christ made his sacrifice the sacrificing of animals was part of the way God gave for men to relate to Him. This is no longer so. It is the once and for all sacrifice that The Lord gave upon the cross that gives us an ever open door to God.
I think though what you are probably thinking of would be more of a shrine than an altar. The problem with shrines is that they are an idea and a practice that is closely connected with idolatry. The only place shrine is mentioned in the Bible seems to be Acts 19:24.
Take a look at Hebrews 13:8-16 particularly noting verses 15,16. The Lord Jesus said to the woman at the well, "But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4.

If The Spirit of Jesus is in our hearts we have no need for altars or shrines. Halleluia!
