• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just can not slow down the minds myself, always feeling hurry up, hurry up.

But now I came back to Jesus, I know I m in the lord hands. But I also need more advices and wisdom that why I should not hurry, and how to relax my minds and thoughts, etc...

Passage Luke 12:22-33:
22And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
24Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
32Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
33Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

Look at verse 25 specifically. What do you gain by worrying and stressing? Nothing. This is not an easy lesson, I can't say I've mastered it fully, but it is true.

As for relaxation techniques, I'm afraid I don't know much, but what I suggest is giving your worries to God. By this I don't mean that you ignore stuff, but that you don't go around worrying about them when there's nothing you can do. Instead trust God to handle it the way He sees fit. I suppose you could say realize when you are powerless and hand it to God. And when you aren't powerless, still hand it to God by asking for His wisdom, advice and will to do the right thing.

One final suggestion is to create a sanctuary in your mind. A place where there is nothing but you and God. I've a place like this in my mind, though I haven't used it much. It's a small beach, surrounded by "vegetation" which you can't see through. It's very bright, and Jesus sits with me on the beach. I know it might sound slightly childish, but in a way this "place" can really help me calm down.

I don't know if there's any specific rule about worship. I suppose it can be quite personal. There's service, singing and praising, and then there's private worship as well. I'm no expert, but it seems like there can be a thousand different types of worship. I don't know if anyone can say what is right and what is wrong, within reason of course. I think the most important part is to really mean what you do, whether it's singing or praising or giving thanks. As long as your "heart" is in it and you are sincere, I think God will accept it!

hi restore,
I had a milder verson of that but only when at work and to do with work. I used to work in shops and the supervisors always made sure we were always doing something. Then I was getting very stressed at work because of problems from out side of work. I had to get out. I finally crawled out and found a different line of work. A couple of years later I was working with some guy an all he did was talk. talk talk. he was a down to earth guy but very light hearted. he was not a christian so his conversation topics did not have the usual boundaries but he tried to talk straight with people and in turn would ask straight questions, fair enough, I thought and quite unusually interesting. I was forced to be honest and open with this guy especially about my past whilst trying to hold on to my integrity about the present. This was interesting, it totally took my mind of my work, no more mental mind lock on work like I had previously got conditioned into, somehow. He was totally different to the other supervisors I had previously worked with. He knew his work but had almost a total disregard to any work ethic. He would have a cigarette break every hour.(I'm not encourging smoking). work as little as he could and chat with almost every body that he could with and sometimes mess around with us. and on top of that he would not put any pressure on me at all about the work. This was great, He helped give me 'a don't care attitude' whilst around him.
I haven't seen him for a while but some of that attitude has rubbed of on me.

hope this helps in some weird way.

Scriptures tell us what worship is.

Romans 12:1-2 describe it beautifully.

Living Sacrifices

1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual[a] act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

When I first began therapy, 18 years ago, I meditated on this passage, and prayed that God would renew my mind.

My mind races. I think it is ADD. I am also on some meds for it.

Hugs,
Trish

Tune in to the 'tape' that is playing inside. It was programmed by your parent's attitudes. What is it saying? "I must do better to be loved and accepted"; I can always do better; It's wrong to relax and have fun or chill out; I feel guilty if I am not doing something useful; etc

Then, you have something to work on.

You have an inner condition of the heart that some call performance orientation. This is where you have been programmed to believe that your worth is determined by results. Thus, you must always try harder, always try to be perfect or the best. Even when you do well you discount that by thinking "I could have done better if I had tried harder".

This can require specific counsel and prayer, as only Jesus can heal the heart. But you can start by recognising the pattern and choosing not to accept it. You can consciously begin to accept less demanding standards. What is really important is that you must begin to have fun, to play.

Feel free to PM me if you want to look at this ina bit more depth.
