Note: All Scripture quotations found in this article are from the text of the Authorized King James Version of the Bible.
The first step of being born again is admitting you are a sinner (Isa. 6:5, Job 42:6, 2 Cor. 7:10). Because of your sin, you are separated from holy and righteous God and deserve eternal Hell.
Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Revelation 20:15 “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 21:8 "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
It is certain that when we die we will either go to Heaven or Hell. There are no second chances after death.
Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
It must be known that salvation is not by works. No man can work his way to heaven. Going to church, water baptism, reading your Bible, praying and repenting of sins are all good works, but no good work saves us. Salvation is by faith alone in Jesus Christ, plus nothing.
Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”
Romans 4:5 “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”
Galatians 2:16 “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”
There is only one true God and He is a Trinity (1 John 5:7, John 1:1,14). God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ into the world to save sinners (John 3:16). The Lord Jesus Christ was God manifest in the flesh (1 Tim. 3:16), born of a virgin (Matt. 1:23), lived a sinless life (2 Cor. 5:21), was beaten and put on the Cross to die. While on the Cross, Jesus bore our sins and took the wrath of God for us (2 Cor. 5:21). After Jesus died, He was put in a tomb and arose the third day by the power of God. The death, burial and resurrection is the Gospel that saves us. We are saved by His Blood.
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
1 Corinthians 15:3 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
Romans 3:25 “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;”
The next verses tell us how to be born again and receive eternal life.
Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Acts 16:31 “..Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved..”
To be saved you can pray something like this in your own words…
“Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and my good works cannot save me. I am putting my trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and believing on Him as my Saviour.”
For those that accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour, God’s word tells you that you can know you are saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit.
1 John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,”
Salvation is not by works, neither is it kept by works. We show our love towards Christ by obedience and doing good works, but that is our fellowship with God, not salvation. If we do not live for Christ, we will not receive rewards at the Judgment Seat of Christ (2 Cor. 5:10), and we will also reap what we sow (Gal. 6:2). Prayer and studying the King James Bible are two of the most important things to do to stay close to God.
