How Normals Think

I've seen the test and have taken others. I often come up borderline, but I am reading through that other site. Very helpful. Thanks

I think for the majority my performance around the neurotypical environment is performance-oriented. I get very anxious in situations where there's lots of people and lots of noise, and I get frustrated and tired quite easily, but as far as interaction goes, I just "play the game," so to speak. That's not to say that I don't enjoy being around people and am doing it just to be a people-pleaser (I do love my friends at church), but I try and imitate what I see others do, so it at least looks normal, although much of what I do is not normal. I try and make things look natural, because I most certainly love the people I'm around, and I think they are all great people. Social situations do not come normal though.

I find that if you can find a niche, people will really like you no matter how weird you might be. I don't do well in situations where people are just chit-chatting about nothing, but when I'm around guitar players, I fit in perfectly. When I'm around smart people, the conversations fly. When I'm at church, I tend to do very well too. I gained a bit of acceptance by preaching a few times. I recently did a sermon on the historical evidence surrounding the New Testament, and I was so into it, it sounded completely natural. I've given presentations in college, and I knew the material so well I scored perfect grades, and my audience was fully intrigued. I plan to carry the same principal with me into the work world; people judge you by how you act and you as a person, but only to an extent. If you are unnaturally gifted at something, or stand as a top-ranking expert in a field, they will probably say something like, "Oh, Mr. So-and-so is an excellent forensic accountant, I would look into him! Yeah, he's a little odd, but no matter; his work is second to none!"

Timuchin I have AS and when I talk to my friends 'especially my childhood friends' do they ignore me?? U may think yes but I know they dont ignore me I am just a normal person, never throw paraoximal rages in public and they treat me like them With ppl on Christian Forums who dont have AS or autism do they ignore me?? Definatly not Think about those two answers I gave u, maybe they r just the person they r and dont want to talk to ppl but I kinda disagree with ur argument bout 'normals' in a way, its the way that they behave towards us when they figure out we have what we have and we r born with it They r also appauling to ppl in wheelchairs and that discusts me quite a lot, they dont have a disease that is catchable and its not right for them to b treated that way, they deserve and we all deserve to b treated like normal ppl and I think several ppl in here would agree with that

I know. I have an undergraduate and still find myself struggling when it comes to the area of employment. Not sure if that is an aspie trait or just the SAD?

On my resum'e (with active links), I refer to myself as an Engineering Savant. Hopefully THAT will pique some interest and get them to cut me some slack at the interview...

Timuchin answer to ur question ... Well, HazelAngel, you are fortunate to be a benign-looking woman. You are able to 'pass' as normal because they are accomodating to you. That's why there seems to be more male Aspergers than female. For myself I am a big, capable man. They see me as strange through my attempts to act normal. "How strange is he?" they wonder. "Is he 'axe-murderer' strange?" Then I see this flash of fear in their faces. I know the friendship is over. How can I prove I'm not a potential axe-murderer?

Just b urself, thats what I do and it works fine with me I even admit to some of my friends that I have AS and do they fear me because of it, no they dont

there is such thing as 'handicapped' and 'has a disability' Timuchin referin to this quote - I have since then made up business cards that explaining the positives and negatives of the Aspergers I have so they can know the limits of my "strangeness." The cards also place me in the category of "handicapped" so they socially have to cut me slack. - Here in NZ AS is labled as a disability although we cant park in disabililty spaces, that is reserved for ppl in wheelchairs, some ppl just park in them no matter what and dont care bout ppl in wheelchairs.
