I'd like some Christian options...like a guitar hero for the Wii where my kids and I can play popular songs by Casting Crowns, Mercy Me, Toby Mac, etc

That said, we're fairly careful about what games we let our kids play, and we play as a family a fair bit too.

But satanic games do! I have seen many references to the Bible in Halo 3. In fact, Halo 3 is the most popular Xbox 360 game on the marketplace.

"High Charity has fallen, become a wretched hive!" is a reference to Revelation 18:2. From this, I infer that the role of the Flood in Halo 3 is demonic.

Therefore, I merely voted Not Needed. We don't need any christian video games.

For not all Christian games suck.
Except we're talking about games with Christianity as the core subject. Not as something that is put into a game for whatever reasoning.

I like the replies here.

Thanks all,

Let me first off by saying there is some good christian games out there I used to work with a christian game company "can't say" that was Australian based that made christian games that were pretty good.

I can say this not all of the bible is rated -R meaning some things in the bible can be interperted as rated R. there was war in the bible/blood etc...etc...

I believe we can compete with secular games if we can drive the gospal in a story driven concept such as The Chronicles of Narnia.

In reply mont974x4: I agree with the guitar hero type of thing. they make "Praise Hero" only problem with it it runs on pc and is a bit lacking gfx that guitar hero and rock band have. but I believe it'd be pretty easy to find a good gfx artist & programmer to make such a thing and get some good christian music companys to help fund and provide music for it. "free advertising for them"

That's exactly what the OP was talking about. Or do you just not know how to read?

Don't be a twit. Of course I know how to read, do you? The OP does address the issue of quality in the normal Christian games.

The OP is not so narrow as you had suggested.

but whatever, unsubscribing

I have tried maybe half a dozen "Christian" games over my lifetime and I can honestly say I would rather put the various media containment devices in a blender and drink them with a chaser of drain cleaner than play them twice.

In my view, people who make Christian games make the same mistake as the Army does with their little pet recruitment game (and make no mistake, it IS a recruitment game). Just because you know something well DOESNT mean you can make a good game out of it.

The Left Behind games were frightening because they seemed like they were pushing for a totalitarian theocratic "convert or die" sort of idea aside from the gameplay being about as fun as playing pickup sticks with red hot steel wire.

If you REALLY want your god in your games, learn to make mods for games that already work.

The thing I don't like about the concept of games like Praise Hero is the same that I don't like for things like all the games that are like DDR: simple, blatant copying of someone's successful idea in order to make money for themselves. It's shows a complete lack of originality. Rock Band was the same thing, but it brought many other aspects to the table such as drums and vocals.

I would much rather see companies, especially faith based companies, coming up with their own ideas rather than riding the coat tails of mainstream success. Either they succeed or fail on their own doing rather than on someone else's hard work.

Good luck with that whole "trying to insult people by telling them you are leaving" thing. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Well said. I remember playing the Left Behind game for the first time and thinking to myself "What the....?" It's not a wonder so many people are so against Christianity when promoting messages like that, even if that wasn't the original intention of the gaming company when they made it.

I can see the whole "Holy War" or "Fighting For God" thing they believe they are part of, but when you end up pushing people further away rather than bring them in, it's a war you can't win. :\

None. Zero. Zip.

They have tried, they have failed. Bottom line, Christianity just doesn't make for good gaming.

I don't know that they don't make good gaming.
It would be hard to make a good FPS out of a Christian Game, but some form of RTS might work.

I can also see a good RPG being done, though that would be harder.
MMPORGS I don't see working though.

I do know some consider Doom to be a Christian game because of the destroying demons thing, however, I think that is a greatly overblown statement.

An RPG would be the best course of action, but it would be difficult to make it interesting, I think.

I've probably played the majority of Christian games out there and while some of them have been playable, none of them have come close to their secular counterparts in terms of quality and they all seem like attempts made by amateurs. I've never felt anything like encouraged in my faith by them and so far it's all seemed like a clone of whatever popular secular game they are going for with some Christian content tacked on.
I'm not against the idea in general and I would love to see more positive games out there, but I'm just not sure if there is enough value in them to be worth the investment.

The only way I could see a Christian game being any good would be if it was a game first and then had Christian themes or elements entwined... but then it wouldn't be the core of the game and most people wouldn't really consider it a Christian game. People would still be offended on the christian side cause it's not Christian enough and the non-Christians wold call it Christian Propaganda being paraded around in a video game (similar to what happened with The Book of Eli movie...)

This seems as good a place as any to point out that at least one of the Winter's Veil quests in World of WarCraft hint at Christian values among some of the game's designers. (I'd link to a screenshot that I took of the particular quest for illustration purposes, but I can't post links until I hit 50 posts.)

It may sound odd, but search for a list of credits for the WoW expansion Wrath of the Lich King and you'll see that at least one Blizzard employee is vocal about his or her faith.

So instead of arguing that we need more Christian games, perhaps we support Christians already working in the games industry if and when they're vocal about their faith?

If Christian gaming is going to make a real go of it ever they're going to have change focus from serious to casual gaming. They need accept that gaming has become big business and that acouple of guys in a garage with a few thousand for production isn't going to be able to compete in the current retail market.

Hey! This thread is quite interesting, like why not we Christians then make an extremely awesome video game out there where in it has an animation graphic like anime with a story set in the future but loaded with Christianity in it? Look guys, Christian games are really required to make the dudes and gals out there who are addicts of gaming turn to that game.

It has all of these qualities...
-Good Story
-" Gameplay
-" Character Development
-" BGMs
-" Graphics
-" Reviews
