And of those who do...which translation will you use?

I finally got through the Bible for the first complete time last month. I read the NIV version. This year I am planning to read the message Bible as my daily reading and do more in depth studies in addition to daily reading.

Happy New Year and Happy Birthday!

I plan to read more this year. I think I'll use the New Living Translation for daily reading. I like the New King James Version and New American Standard Bible for more in-depth studies.

I plan to read the Bible completely for the first time at least once this year. How long did it take you to get through it completely for the first time?

Reading the Word is an awesome thing, isn't it? To know the mind of God.
I find as I read, God will draw me to study specific things, like the salt covenant, and the mind. That's what I love to do-study.
I use the NKJV, Spirit Filled Life Bible, it's an awesome Bible.

It seemed like forever. I kept trying to read cover to cover and kept getting stuck and giving up in the OT. I finally found a reading plan that included a little reading each day from OT, NT a psalm and a few verses of proverbs. This really helped and I was able to get through it in 6 mos. But I had already read four chapters in NT and three in OT when I started to get serious about finishing by end of 2005. It felt so good to finish once! Now I feel like I can do a serious in depth study! Before I felt like I was missing something. It is comforting to know that it will take our entire lifetime to learn what God wants us to learn! God Bless you and good luck! Now that I am done...I do miss it and am currently anticipating the arrival of The Message Bible that I ordered a few days ago.

I did, but it was accidental.

I bought my wife Tim LaHaye's book on how to study the Bible. It was siting on our night stand on New Years eve and I picked it up and started thumbing through it, next thing I knew, I was hooked. It's actually a three year method on how to complete the Bible, but I like how it's put together.

You read the most important books quite a few times, you inadvertantly learn numerous verses and by the end of the first year you've read the New Testament in it's entirety two or three times.

I liked the sound of it and got up the next morning and started reading, then I went to put a note in my Bible Journal (which I've been keeping for quite a while now) and noticed: "Hey! It's New Years!" so I resolved to go through the BIBle as Mr. LaHaye suggests, thus I will be reading it more.

If anyone wants a copy of the book, I can get the ISBN off of it for you.

I am setting it as one of my personal goals not use to read but make or pick a topic and find verse that support it Title,Text, and make notes plus it will help me give even better advice when people ask questions:)

Every Year I attempt to read the Bible straight through and every year I get just past Numbers and something goes wrong and I don't finish but this year is gonna be different! So I'm back in Genesis for the fourth time but it is always an amazing read.:)

Honestly, committing to reading the whole Bible this year, when coupled with my regular devotions, Bible study, and homework, is just not realistic.

I've decided to read the entire NT this year and memorize a Proverb per week. (Proverbs 10:19 this week...)

I'll probably read the ESV or NASB.

I am just about done reading through for my first time. I've picked and choosed what to read before but never went front to back. I started a "Bible in a Year" thing last year and have fallen just slightly behind, but I'm almost finished.

I also listen to the bible on CD in the car during my commute. Just have to remind yoursef to rewind or pause if you find yourself not paying attention for whatever reason.

Two years ago I used the thru the bible in a year with my small group. It was a fascinating study, led by a very astute biblical scholar from our church. I learned quite a bit from that study, and enjoyed it. This year, I have planned to, and already started reading everyday. For some reason, I chose the book of acts, and have gotten almost all the way thru here in just the first few days of the new year.

I have to admit there were some very difficult parts to get through.

Leviticus for example, and the detailed list of materials/instructions for the tabernacle and it's construction. I also had difficulty getting through proverbs. I like proverbs, but reading them one after another lost meaning. I prefer finding them when I am in need via a bible search. Psalms was not a problem, in fact, I love how they ramp up near the end, when I finished I felt so pumped up!
