I run for 30 minutes 3 times a week...that's with some walking breaks during the run. I think just start with running as much as you're comfortable with and push yourself a little further each time...you'll eventually find an amount that's enough for you.

You don't have to run to get good cardio exercise. Walking is so underestimated for keeping the body healthy. Anyway, find something you enjoy and stick with it. Don't get me wrong, running is a great, efficient cardio workout. I used to be an avid runner. When I started I hated it but after about a month I was addicted to it. I loved hitting the road. I loved it so much but after 15 years my knees paid for it. Now I walk (a lot), hike, bike and once in a while run. I think doing a variety of exercises keeps things interesting. Keep moving!

I usually do 20 minutes on the treadmill, at full incline. I'm probably the exception, but I hate running outside - I've tried it and I think I would rather watch paint dry. I really wish I had someone to jog with, as I'm sure having the company and extra "motivation" would make it more interesting.

It was after listening to my mother's co-worker have to get double knee replacements at 28 that I changed my mind about running (he ran around 10 miles a day though). I love to run, but I don't anymore. Walk, walk, walk....
I play a dance game though and it's probably just as bad.
