I try to not eat one hour before Mass. That makes about 2 hours before I receive communion. How long do you fast before communion?

I try for at least an hour. Usually it's more than 2-3 hours counting no water by the time I get to Church.

I agree for the most part. The water is not something I’m strict on though. I fast before communion usually for more hours than one hour but I do drink water if I need it.

Minimum an hour depending on the time of day Mass is that we're going to. When it was just me I liked going to the 8am Mass since then I would've fasted since midnight. It's a different animal with the wife and kids, but I stay true to my convictions even if it must be on my own.

My priest said one hour, but I try to fast a little more than that. (Unless I'm having a blood sugar issue.)
One hour and also sugar issues. [hypoglycemia often times] and then the time at Mass as well.
Back in the day of my grandparents it was nothing after midnight which made the 8 am Mass very popular.

But it's one hour. St Paul said do not come because you are hungry... I think oftentimes there was a feast after? By the sharing of food in the earliest Church. Not sure... will have to check on that.

But fasting is mindful of His sacrifice for us as well as productive of Graces.

I’ve always been told an hour. I have never been told to abstain from water.
Yeah I've always understood water is totally fine. I've even heard tea is okay for people who might have low blood sugar or something.

Yeah I was taught the same. An hour is not a big deal as compared to how I was told it used to be!

A lot of trads like to follow the old ways and fast after midnight, and some of them don't have a TLM to go to until 11am or later Sunday so that's quite a while without any food.

Yeah I heard that. Not sure I would feel led to do that every single time though. Life can get in the way depending on who you care for.

I always go to the Saturday Mass at 5 pm. So, fasting from midnight on would be very difficult.

The way you do a 5pm mass is to fast lunch, that being the meal before mass.
So the day of mass,
( Saturday) you could eat a normal breakfast, (like that play on words there) fast lunch, attend mass and receive the Eucharist, and then go home and eat dinner.

Ordinarily, twenty hours, though when I'm not feeling well I'll replace water with a little juice.

I went to Saturday evening Mass last week, though, so it was only seven hours since my doctor says I MUST eat breakfast. That was actually harder than my regular because it wasn't my ordinary schedule.
