  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How does this figure into forgiveness?

Because His forgiveness is not unconditional. It is free, but we have to believe in Him, repent of our old lives and and give our lives to Him to receive it. That means we have to publically confess our faith in Him, and not deny Him by our words or our lifestyles. What Jesus was saying was simply that if you deny Him, He will deny you as well. Unless you repent, and then He forgives you.

I have in the past denied Jesus before others, hid my faith and lived a worldly lifestyle just to fit in and avoid persecution. That is the opposite of taking up our crosses, denying ourselves and following Him. And He pulled away from me, so I could get a deeper conviction and come back to Him. That is what happens if we hold on to sin. It displeases God and He pulls away from us until we repent and change. Because there is no forgiveness without repentance.

Hey guys, I am not understanding why since Christ is all about love and forgiveness that he would say this?

33 But the one who disowns me in the presence of human beings, I will disown in the presence of my Father in heaven.

For just as the body apart from spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

we must be steadfast in our faith as he was even to his cross ...

The definition of disown is "refuse to acknowledge or maintain any connection with". Peter denied Christ, but did not disown him. Although the word disowns is the English translation there is a clear difference in the meaning of the two words with disown also including not having anything else to do with the person/thing disowned.

Unfortunately, there's no forgiveness for apostates (Hebrews 6:4) because like Judas they'd rather die of remorse than repent and confess Christ. But, in most cases, like that of Peter, the backsliding is only temporary and forgiveness is abundant (Luke 22:32-34, John 21:15-17). God's holiness and justice demand Christlike purity to enter heaven (Hebrews 12:14). Those that refuse to acknowledge the Lord and repent will never receive that holiness from the Lord. Hope that helps. Peace in Christ:).

If you disown the Lord, he will disown you, but if you repent, he will forgive you. Without discipline, this world would be a frightful place.
