ok through all my experience with deliverance and the demonic, and through my gifting (discernmetn of spirits).....
Demons can not "possess" people, because the word possess means to control ones will, if that were possible then demons could possess eveyrone and no one would get saved....

BUT, demons can "inhabit" a christian if they are in sin, or have unforgiveness. where do tehy demons go since your spirit is inhabited by God?? They either go to ur soul (mind, will, and emotions) or they go into your physical body.

Thats why in the bible it talks about always protecting yourself and putting on teh armor of God (ephesians 6:10-18).

Demons can't read peoples minds, but they can put thoughts into peoples heads, to try and make them sin.

Umm i think i covered ur question, no? well anyway...

God Bless!!

I think we are giving Satan and his demons powers that belong only to God... Demons (Satan) are not omnipresent, omni-powerful, omniscient, or omni anything... they are fallen angels.

Eph. does talk about putting on the armor of God, but what is the context? In Vs. 1-11 it is talking about Christians obeying their parents, etc.

NO Where in Eph 6 does it mention demons or anything of the sort, so your interpretation is a little faulty on that.

Shannon,

There is no such thing as demon “possession,” at least in the sense that it is popularly believed and taught. The word “possession” or “possessed” in those scriptures where it is found (Matt. 4.24; 8.16, 28, 33; 9.32; 12.22; Mark 1.32; 5.15-18; Luke 8.36) is an addition (corruption) by English translators in order to translate the Greek word “daimonizomai” (lexicon), for which there was no English equivalent. A more exact translation of the word “daimonizomai”, according to some linguists, would be “demonized,” NOT demon “possessed.” Demon "possessed" conjures up images of The Exorcist and does not leave room for demonic influence in everyone's, believers's as well as non-believer's, lives.

The Amplified version of the Bible is more careful to note this subtle difference and does not use the phrase “possessed of devils” that the KJV is keen on using but instead translates daimonizomai as “under the control/power of demons.”

Chris Simpson, in his book “Can a Christian Have a Demon” (1995) writes, “In the New Testament, the Greek word 'daimonizomai' is used to express the presence of demonic spirits within a person. What this word means is: 'to be demonized; to be under the power or influence of a demon in certain areas; to have a demon.' The word 'possessed," however (in the KJV, for example), is a misleading translation for this Greek word. To English speaking people the term 'possessed' implies total ownership of something. This concept, as pertaining to the relationship between a demonic entity and a person, has no support in the scripture or in the original intent of the Greek word. There is no suggestion in the scripture that a demon has totally taken over a person as the word 'possessed' implies.”

So the question is not “Can a Christian be Demon-Possessed?” but “Can a Christian be Demonized?” or "Can a Christian be influenced by Demons?"

And the answer is, of course we can.

A good (and short) study on this topic can be found at http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/demon1.html

Check it out.

lol ok this is coming from someone who has no experience in with the uccult, wicca, witchcraft, voodoo, or any of that sort......

God says to protect ourselves with the armor of God to quench teh firey darts of the evil one.......ofcourse it's not relevant to you now cause u have no experience in deliverance.

I could list scriptures ALL day about God telling us to protect ourselves from evil, and to forgive, and repent, ima look up thsi scripture where it says this, but.......it says, if you have unforgiveness, that God is going to deliver you to the evil one!

so what ur trying to get at is.....that demons can't affect christians??

I NEVER said that demons can't affect Christians... Christians can most definitely be INFLUENCED by demons...

And, yes, I have been involved in delieverance.. on several of the mission trips I have been involved in... and everyone of the people that were delievered became Christians AFTER they were delievered.

My mom did a study on this s while ago.......she said, the oder that the aposles did this was very interesting.......

They would save the person, babtise them, then deliver them of demons. Why do u think christians can't have demons?

EDIT: do u have any scripture references to your theory?

I am just curious. I am a not a person that studies Demon possession or anything of the sort, but I was curious as to how you think that one comes to be possessed?
I don't want to argue semantics but for lack of a better word...I think "possession" can occur as a result of abuse in some cases. I know of at least two people whom I sincerely believe are demon controlled. Both were horribly abused as young children. I think the terrible hurt and betrayal that they surely felt turned to anger and rage, which allows the devil an opening to gain control over their lives.

Before I became a Christian I was heavily involved in witchcraft, demon religions, and physic phenomina. As I began to read the Bible and learn about Christ and the gospel, I began to have violent and threatening dreams. The demons behind the occult powers I had been using were getting "stirred up" at the presence of the light. They let me know in no uncertain terms that they did not like where I was going and threatened me to stop or else. Needless to say they failed!

One way demons gain entry is by occult involvement. Read the works of Kurt Koch. He has volumes and volumes of research on the subject and makes a solid case for occult related demonic activity. This occult activity can include things like superstition, unreasonalbe fears, and false spirituality. A dear friend of mine had grown up in a legalistic religion that exploided members with fear and guilt. One night we were talking about dreams and such and she related how she had dreams that were very scary. She confided in me that she thought a demon was behind it all. I suggested off hand that we could pray right there and rebuke that spirit. She began to tremble and pleaded with me to not to. I was young in the Lord at them time and that demon would not get away with that today! We went to a local church where the minister was renown for casting out demons. I watched as a minister cast a demon of fear out of her. He manifested the word of knowledge, told her why this demon has a right to torment her(the above mentioned religion of fear) and cast the demon out. We watched as the demon moved from her stomach, into her chest, and finally out the top of her head! All in the name of Jesus! She said she felt the demon move from one place to another in her body trying to "hide."
Hehehehe.... no way!

I have had a few thoughts personally on these things...this statement has really evoked something.

There is, it appears, a covering placed on all of us. All of God's human creation has this covering, and you might call it "our authority" over the spirit realm, even though we are below it. It seems that this covering, similar to our health, can be destroyed and degraded (moth eaten...). Sin appears to be the direct cause of this effect, and the more abhorrent and definite, such as satanic worship, work directly against this covering, seeking to destroy it. I cannot define this cover but by a "feeling" I get, and I am sure we all rest in knowledge of it.

We are currently, this very second, surrounded by forces of might far greater than ourselves, but there is something dividing us, keeping us from their grasp: I like to call it "choice," but I believe it extends far beyond that, where our covering actually has spiritual substance. Do not leave your covering; God has commanded us not to sin for a good reason, and it reaches into the realm of personal spiritual health. So why do we not run in fear of these unseen giants which encompass us? Because we have a covering. WE ARE COVERED, Praise God, we are covered, THERE'S POWER IN THE BLOOD. As parents, it is imperitive we pray for our children and their covering, for they encounter things daily which seek to kill, rob, destroy. SO DO WE.

I believe that such "possession" may be related to this covering, and our opting out of it at some time and place. Any thoughts on this?

One thing I have noticed down through the years (and it is evident in the story I shared) is that demons are very often "stirred up" in people when you talk about the subject of demons, possession, and deliverance in the name of Jesus!
Just an observation.

I agree with you about the covering and I think we can opt out from beneath it by choices we make. I also think that there are things, such as abuse, and the often resulting inner rage, that can eventually allow "possession" to occur. The anger becomes a channel for the demonic spirits to enter the mind.

This thread made me think of something that happened last year. I had a confrontation with (family matter) someone and this person claims to be born again and Spirit filled. However, the fruits of her life testify otherwise. Anyway, during this confrontation I "saw" the spirit that she is truly filled with. I don't know how to describe this other than utter blackness within. It was as if it lurked behind her eyes and spread in a cloud from her. I not only "saw" it, I felt it as well. I find it very sad that someone could be so utterly decieved by Satan and I truly pray that somehow God will enlighten her and set her free.
