How do you write devotionals?

I would love to write some devotionals, but I have no idea how to. Can anyone give me any advice on where I should start, and how I should go about it?

I feel the need to do 'something' and I like to write, so I thought of devotionals (or something like it). I just have no idea how to start.

I often just sit and think, and I find great comfort in peace and quiet, but I wanted to do something constructive at the same time.

How do you know if He is speaking to you, though?
