• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How do you separate yourself from the OCD

I understand that I need to be able to recognize things as OCD, so I can label
it as OCD and deal with it accordingly. But I have such a hard time not blaming
myself for the intrusive thoughts and praying that there is no hidden meaning
behind the "bad thoughts". I am going to need to be able to do this in order
for my therapy I am about to start to work. I'm always putting meaning with
everything, instead of just dismissing it as just the OCD. How do others do
this without questioning yourself a bunch?

Part of going to therapy is that your therapist will help you with these kind of issues, helping you to recognize which thoughts are OCD and which one's are not, So you don't have to prepare yourself in advance. Also people who suffer from these kind of intrusive thoughts(like myself) normally have a hard time distinguishing which thoughts are correct and which are not, or at least they get overwhelmed by them like me. But don't worry, just go to your therapist and listen to what they recommand. God bless you.

Thanks for your responses. I am starting an intensive program a week from Monday and I am kind of crawling out of my skin trying to deal with things in the mean time. I believe I found someone who can hopefully help me, but for the next week I feel like I am just in survival mode.

HI Kimberly,
Boy it sounds like you're off to a very good start in managing your OCD. Good for you. Brave girl!
Here's how I handle this. When those types of questions come up I test my emotional reaction to them. 1. Do the doubts carry with them intense feelings of anxiety or guilt? 2.Does the uncertainty that I feel about them lead me directly back, via another route, to my original underlying fear? (ie. For me that would be - "Am I still saved or am I going to hell?") If the answer to those questions is yes then I go ahead and label the doubts/questions as OCD. I can tell you also that every time this has happened to me, which is a lot, it's turned out to be OCD. It will try to come in through the back door if you don't let it in the front. It just takes a lot of practice and patience to get the hang of recognizing the enemy.
You'll do great!!

I suffered with it for years, the guilt, the ocd, the depression. The ocd causes such bad feelings. For a long time I just suffered and went to therapy. Seeing psychiatrists is the only thing that took all that away. I tried everything it seems, then I told myself I would do anything to get it under control.
