mostly we can say a prayer thanking the Lord for giving us this day of rest.1 way SDA's prepare for Sabbath is preparing meals for the day before the Sabbath sundown deadline. Church Saturday morning.............Evening...feelowship with family and or friends.......then Sundown.............Christianforums

We pray a prayer letting God know that we feel blessed to be a part of HIS holy day and that we plan on spending the entire 24-hours with Him, such a wonderful blessing!

I always give special thanks to my Creator for creating such a wonderful earth for us to live on, and I apologize for what we as humans have done to parts of it. When the earth is made new, it will be perfect and I look forward to that as I'm sure the Creator does too. A perfect world without sin.

We end Sabbath in prayer as well. Just thanking Him for the rest He knew we desperately needed.

I'm always sad to see it go...but I enjoy every minute of it while I can!

These are all great ideas. I am an sda and have been for sometime now. i was curious what other people did. we could always incorporate new ideas and things into our sundown observances. My family does this.. my daughter opens the sabbath with a prayer, then I read a chapter out of a story of religious nature, right now we are reading the pilgrams progress for children. Then we sing a couple songs with the hymnal accapella. Then my husband asks for prayer requests then he leads us in prayer. we do the same for closing out the sabbath.

I know some people light candles when the sabbath comes in for there worship time and also drink grape juice. just a special thing to look forward to. we have done this in the past, we havent done it in a while though. :)

>.O my family just says a prayer. But, we're becoming better religious-family-bonding time wise :) my sisters boyfriends family = very religious SDA's, and they put us to shame. Consequently, we've started improving our attitude o_O But after the family prayer, I always make sure to have my own one with God afterwards, specifically asking for things directly related to me and him :)

Thank you for that link, brother.
Not only were there some good ideas on that page but it also showed me that there are still people out there who need my help (I build websites for people). :D

I am curious how people around the world do this. I know it can change from week to week, but what are some ways you do it? :)

When I was little we would always have our baths and then we would read a story and then put some "sabbath" music on and then us kids would dance around and be silly.. and then for Saturday we just have a story and say a pray.. but now its different we sadly dont really keep the sabbath any more...

Thanks! My shield was described as being for "Jesus freaks" - which I am, so I bought it! :)

Lately, I have been welcoming Sabbath just as I do each day. Communication with the Creator; giving thanks for every moment. We have some kind of study with the children -- not necessarily from the Quarterlies, and whatever else suits the mood. I see Sabbath as a time to rejoice in the beauty of the universe, in the love of the Creator.
Amen! :amen:

With prayer and with prayer....

Yep. But then again, all my days are opened and closed with prayer. So Stormy, do you have special Sabbath prayers? Or have you found it not to be that important? I know that some observant Jews have Shabbat prayers that are not prayed during the week.
Sabbath isn't different for me in that sense. If I am not in open communication with God each moment, each day, then praying on Sabbath is only a talisman.

Nope no special prayers in particular.... I am learning to pray and express thankfulness for what He has given that week or that day AND in addition not to beg for things/stuff...
