  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It helps to have peace and quiet, and be comfortable. :) It isn't just letting yourself go, but rather focusing your thoughts on specific things. Like the Mysteries of the Rosary, or the Stations of the Cross. It's quite hard at first, until you learn how to discipline your mind. Mine tries to flutter all over the place, still. :)

One way is to pick a passage from one of the gospels, and picture in your mind -- place yourself in the scene that is taking place -- i.e. When Jesus is teaching the crowd the Beatitudes... you are one of the persons in the crowd, listening to Jesus -- what do you see? what do you hear? what do you feel? or, perhaps you're someone apart from the crowd, someone off to the side, watching the whole scene --
let the Gospel stories come alive, by allowing yourself to be present and to be part of it.

One of the aspects of the rosary is that it is a form of meditative prayer. You are praying the same words over and over (which almost serves like a mantra in that it gives your mind something to focus on rather than just wandering) while you are contemplating specific truths.

One of the big differences between Christian meditation and new age/buddhist meditation is that in buddhist meditation the goal is to empty your mind and 'go blank' while in Christian meditation you are actively contemplating scriptural truths.

In addition to the rosary, there are numerous prayers by various saints throughout history (such as St. Patrick, St. Francis, etc.) that can be used in the same way.

Others use the Psalms the same way... praying/reading through them, while focusing on specific aspects of the nature of Christ.

Still others use a crucifix or an icon to focus on.

I'm sure others here can jump in with more 'methods.' An important thing to note here is that there are a number of different methods-- just as there are different ways of praying. It's not so much a matter of learning the 'right' way, as learning what works for you.
