I view/illustrate sin as death. If sin had "a look", to me, it looks like death.
The meaning of death in the Bible is simply separation.
Physical:- soul separated from body.
Spiritual:- Separated from God.
Eternal:- soul spiritually separated at physical separation goes to eternal separation from God.
Sin to me has a look of defiance or rebellion.

Sin is missing the mark; it is also hearing someone or something other then God. That is what happened in the Garden of Eden; Adam and Eve heard and followed someone other then God's Spirit (Cool of the Day)

Death in scrpiture is our state of being as sons of Adam(Zombie is a way of putting it) we are walking around in a dead spiirtual body. A dead man cannot, see, touch, smell, hear anything; that is especially true of a spirtual dead man unless God quickens us by His Spirit.

Ummmmm... the soul is never separate from the body in the Christian view, that is strictly an ancient greaco-roman view.

my view of sin is a gap that divided us from direct contact with God, Jesus of course filled this gap and made it possible for us to have a relationship with God through Him.

A soul is your mind your intellect and your reason. You spirit is your essence of your being; the part of you is undefiled by this earth and the sin of Adam. Adam became a living soul according to Genesis 2 on the seven day. To be spiritual is to hear God within your spirit (with in); Soulish is to hear from the carnal mind; with out. Your soul needs salvation not your spirit.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

James 1:21
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
The word save means to be saved; deliver, set free; it is your carnal mind that needs to be delivered; you Spirit is God’s.

Ecclesiastes 12:7
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Death means death. I mean a dead person cannot see, hear, touch smell; that is so true with a spiritual dead person.

The consequence of sin is death, Pauls says the wages of sin is death which is a nice word picture, we have to work to get paid and usually the work comes first and the payment later.

I like the picture suggested by the word for sin itself hamartia, which means missing the mark, like you are shooting with a bow and arrow and can't hit the target.

The two pictures seem to highlight both the sadness of a sinful state, never being able to get it right with God, and the stubborness of it, that we keep trying to hit that mark in our own strength but no matter how hard we try we always fall short.

Even after savlation we still sin in manys ways, James tells us we all stumble in many ways. Hopefully as we grow we expect it to be in ways that are not obvious or 'willful'
