  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The best way is the direct way. Check the publishers of similar materials to your work, find 2-3 that you think may be willing to publish your work, call the publishing company, and ask to speak to an editorial assistant, and state that you are an author who is interested in publishing with them (DO NOT GIVE DETAILS) and would they be kind enough to tell you which literary agents they find to be the most familiar with the type of works that they publish? If you call in the early afternoon, you can usually get a name or two.

If you are using writer's market it usually has contact information. Don't contact the publishing houses looking for agents. Not only is it annoying to the pople at the publishing house but it is unprofessional.

Look at the listings in the agent section of Writer's Market. In bold will be the word represents. This will tell what genres/subjects the agent handles. If the agent handles your genre/subject then look at their website, most if not all agents will have one, This will be found in the top portion with the mailing address and telephone numbers.

When you look at their website are there any authors/titles you recognize. If not search Amazon or go to your local chain bookstore, such as Books-A-Million or Barnes & Noble, see if you can find it. Are the books similar to what you have written.

If this is the agent for you follow the guidelines exactly and too the letter of what they want you to do. This will be found either on their website or in the Writer's Market under the heading how to contact. It will be in bold.

Mail it off with a good query letter. Pray to God and wait. Work on another piece of work. And when you are querying a novel to an agent you'll want the novel complete, not a rough draft.

Hope this helps.
