  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm just wondering who has had God speak to them and how? Was it audible? How did you know it was God?
Sometimes things happen for me like right when I'm praying or thinking about something a particular song comes on the radio that just... hits home you know? Speaks to what I am going through or thinking about. Sometimes I open my bible to a "random" page and find scripture there that relate to my life at the time. Other times, though much more rarely, I hear thoughts in my head that sound different from my own. Its my own voice, but just doesn't feel like me. Ill hear this in response to prayer. For instance one time I was on my way to see someone, a man, and asked in prayer, " is this okay what I'm doing?"
I heard back in my head, " turn around and go home". I argued with this statement. " but I'm almost there it seems silly to turn around". I kept on going and the rest of that day did not end very well.
A year and a half ago or more while in prayer I asked, " what is it you want me to do with my life?"
"Preach"
" really? You know how shy I am You know how little I know the Bible. Come on now."
I shook it off.
Well...until recently.
Has anyone else ever thought they heard God speak to them in their head or any other way?
Am I nuts? Spiritually gifted?
Opinions! Scripture references! Please and thanks

I've had all the above happen to me. You are not nuts lol but we need to be careful with the voices because we need discernment about who that voice is coming from. It can be the enemy trying to keep us from something but it can also be God. Pray for discernment and wisdom to be able to hear and do Gods will and to learn what is the right thing to do and what voice to listen to.

I have heard God many times. Only spoken audibly once to me and that was to heal me from deep depression back in 2010. I have a listing of most of what God has said to me in my blog here on CF. you can search through that if you like.

God will speak mainly through your inner being (aka Spirit). But other times through dreams and visions. He can speak audibly but I have found that is usually only to get our attention and almost always in a bad situation. This is why it is absolutely important to "Be still before the LORD and wait for him".

A lot of times in prayer we can just rush through our requests and leave no time for God to respond before we say amen and go about our business. God wants a relationship with us, not to be treated like a genie.

So I will tell you this, first settle in your mind that Jesus will speak to you! If you do not have faith for it it will not happen!

“To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.”
‭‭John‬ ‭10:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go over and join this chariot."”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:29‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭30:21‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭37:7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Secondly, enter your secret place of prayer (hopefully somewhere quiet) and just tell your Heavenly Father that you are waiting on him to meet you and speak to you.

Then wait! Listen!

Weigh any words you believe you hear against scripture for God will not contradict his revealed word. If you are seeking him for a life decision and hear a word, then measure the wisdom of that word against scripture. This is a great safeguard so you don't run in trouble following a word you thought was from God but wasn't.

Lastly, just to emphasize, have faith! None of this will matter if you do not believe God will talk to you. He wants to talk to you! You are his child!

Be patient, the first time I heard God's voice after being healed by him I waited for several hours. It is painful and you will have to fight the urges to get up and do something else. You'll probably doubt if you can hear and think you are wasting your time, but push through. God is worth it!

If you get time check out my blog here on CF under "Library of the Spirit" that will have quite a few testimonies of God speaking to me and what he said! God bless you!

“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭105:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:13‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Father, I thank you for this child! I ask you in your Heavenly grace to grant your voice to your child in Jesus name! May they hear you confidently and be secure in your love Father! Amen!

Pray for discernment and wisdom to be able to hear and do Gods will and to learn what is the right thing to do and what voice to listen to.
I definitely notice a difference in the voice I presume to be God's And the voice I presume to be the enemy.
For example, when I was involved with someone that I really knew was bad for me but didn't want to give up, I heard "let it go." It was sad in an even tone. No anger no judgement. Plain and simple. "Let it go." At the same time the enemy kept persuading me that everything was fine and there was nothing wrong with what I was doing. " he's fun. There's nothing wrong with having a little fun. Everyone does it you're not doing anything wrong. There's no harm." this voice is persistent. Pressuring. The enemy tries to talk you into things that are bad for you or into making bad decisions.
But God is clear and concise. And when I didn't listen I did not get any anger or I told you so.
I also noticed that yesterday when the enemy was attacking me and I stopped and thought about things and figured out what he was trying to do, the attack stopped.

I believe it is a seven step process...

1. The Outer Court - Justification - Faith to enter in.
2. The Altar - Salvation by acknowledging and believing on Jesus
3. The Laver - The clean effects of sanctification.
4. Table of Showbread – Partaking of the Word of God.
5. Light at the Lightstand - Faith, hope, charity, joy, grace, spiritual fruit, etc.
6. The Golden Incense Altar - Prayer and Praise meetings.
7. The Holy of Holies - The Shekinah Glory and Baptism of the Holy Ghost.

And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him. - Numbers 7:89

It was in the Holy of Holies that God spoke to Moses. It is also the place where you can hear from him too...

I hear God as a spirit of calmness that comes over me. It makes me feel safe and loved. I feel it is beautiful that you commune with God. It is wonderful to be able to be in his presence.

Another phenomenon I experience is when I don't understand something so I pray aloud and I don't "hear" an answer but suddenly as I talk aloud with Him-things just...click. in the natural this is probably called an epiphany. Its that "aha!" moment when suddenly a thing becomes clear to you. But how can something suddenly become clear out of nowhere with no one explaining things? I guess this is another way God speaks? In these cases I don't "hear" anything. Its just that suddenly whatever I'm asking about starts to make sense and it's as if through talking to Him I answer my own question. I don't know.
Sometimes before I write or speak I asked for His help. I ask for Him to guide me in what I say. I did this very recently with interview questions. I was having trouble coming up with what to say. ( these were practice questions I was doing on the computer). So I stopped and prayed asked for help. Next thing I know I'm writing answers. Didn't audibly hear Him tell me what to say, suddenly I just knew what to write. In a real interview I got asked one of those practice questions and I gave the answer that I had asked for help with. The interviewer was very pleased.

I love that you said that. I do the same. I try to pray before I speak with any question. I always ask for God to speak through me and let the person hear what God is intending for them to hear. And yes I believe its that aha moment that you know God is there guiding you. and Bluerose31 thank you for that answer. Sometimes I forget that with God you will feel peace and not anxiety and this is my problem with when I hear a "voice" and I get concerned and not sure If i am listening to the correct "voice".

it is called faithfulness - this is the (true) faith in its essence, the religious worshiper must not be (too) hasty with making/forming inferences, judgments, conclusions, opinions and decisions about anything - we have to be careful not to have any other god, lord(christ) or spirit besides the true One...

Blessings

Think we can asks Yahweh for the answer to questions about everyday things and then check for accuracy. Know some don't agree with that but when we learn to hear Him in the everyday, we'll hear Him better when things are chaotic.

When we hear Him, we're to "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." I Thess 5:20-21
-checking it against Scripture (Acts 17:11),
-asking The Holy Spirit for confirmation (Matt 18:16; II Cor 13:1; Acts 9;9-19 especially v 10-12)
-fasting (Matt 6:16),
-spiritual discernment (I John 4, I Cor 12)
-does it point to Yeshua,
-receiving G_dly counsel (Prov 11:14).

Dr. Robert Morris has a series entitled "Frequency" (In one statement he seems to be against prophecy but he isn't).

Seriously? No one said anything about turning God into a psychic. He is our Father and he wants to lead every aspect of our lives and delights when his children ask him and give him an opportunity to speak.

Might want to re-read what I posted. What's being tested is what's heard.

You said, "Think we can asks Yahweh for the answer to questions about everyday things and then check for accuracy."

Check God's responses for accuracy??

He speaks, we listen - did we hear Him correctly? Our hearing accuracy is what we're testing.

Maybe this will help - Just like in everyday conversations, they're speaking - are we hearing them correctly?

How do you know if you're hearing him correctly? People claim to hear God's voice about all kinds of things, often wrongly. Can you give concrete examples beyond everyday things?
