I have had the thought of and actually "seen" myself preaching in front of our church... never done it... My wife has said that she believes I should be a preacher and my pastor says he believes i will be called... but he also cautions me not to go forth until i know for sure, which of course makes sense to me... i have been struggling to get a prayer out of my mouth lately and honestly, quite embarrassed by this... i want to know what God wants me to do and I know I will get the answer through prayer and time with Him... Is there something that i am missing??? how do i find out for sure???

Chad, you're not missing anything at all. In fact, you are well on the way to finding out if this is your calling; to preach. The best thing you can do is first examine your heart and see if you really have a passion for preaching and teaching. Then, be in prayer deeply and present your thoughts, fears and desires to the Lord. Listen to the Holy Spirit and be open to what the Lord says to you. Be sure you don't move ahead by your own 'feelings' as those can easily be just your emotions.

If you are truly passionate about preaching then perhaps that will be your calling but, you will know when the time comes and it could come to you anytime and anywhere God chooses to make the call. :)

What we all need to do is be 'in tune' with the Holy Spirit and learn to hear his communicating. One of the best ways is during your quiet time, reading your Bible and meditating on The Word. Prayer time is another time to be 'in-tune' as that is not a one-way conversation, many times that is when an open heart receives the 'word' from the Holy Spirit and you will find those answers only in God's good timing. What we don't want to do is simply 'feel' we have a certain calling and move ahead in that under our own power and strength. That is a disaster just waiting to happen! When you feel you are called, talk with your pastor more and be sure you pray with him as having the support from our 'elders' is some of the best covering we can have.

I applaud your interest and seeking God's will for ministry and I pray that the Lord grants your desires, if this is truly your passion for Christ. :amen:

Paul
